Its not fair to blame Mata for our failings in the past seasons because they was no defensive stability like now, we never finished a full season with a manager when he was here, also most of Mata's assists were match winning assists. If he had the protection Oscar has now he would hv flourished better than 2 assists all season. He has been playing non-stop! The kid looks burnt out! Trust me I've worked in Stockbroking and Games development - I know burn out - seen it and experienced it.

Whilst we should have more cover (poor decisions on loans) - we are having to rely on him.

Fatigue is not just physical it's mental too. Mourinho is an exacting coach - these players are having to think a lot more than just playing football - it's a combination of mental and physical - plus he has a World Cup to come.

Mata finally earned a rest and he didnt exactly pull up trees...

We need to support our younger players - they are the future...

Even if you don't think he's a great player - can you question his work ethic, effort or desire? Thought not - and as a fan, I appreciate that the most. If he was playing shit and acting like Vertonghen I could see the problem, but he isn't.

This rest thing is BS. He might play lot and be little tired but that is not the reason for poor form. He had one game for brazil and performed much much better. That is not coincidence. He either lost the will to play (you can see in his face, when we score or he makes bad decisision. He just doesnt realy care). Second possibility is that he is saving himself for WC. But then again, he still plays almost everygame and why wouldnt he want to add a goal or assist more often to get in WC in top form)...

That line of thought is absolutely pathetic!

Yes, I believe the resting thing is very overused. Oscar is certainty tired, but that isn't the main reason he is playing so horribly.

However, that constant questioning of why he played well for Brazil and whatnot is pathetic. Oscar is NOT saving himself nor has he lost the "will" to play or anything. That is outrageous!. Do you want to know why he played well against South Africa? Well, first of all because it was South Africa FFS! Second of all, because he has Neymar, Hulk and Fred to make runs for him and a very solid pivot to give support from behind. Lastly, the Soccer City pitch is way larger than that of Stamford Bridge, so the players have bigger room to control the ball. All things that doesn't happen when he is playing for us!

If Chelsea was playing against China, South Africa, Honduras, etc, Oscar (and every other player) would obviously be lighting the world on fire and scoring a hat-trick every now and then. But we don't, we play in the toughest league on Earth, so we cant expect the same level of performance!!!

And I will repeat, I am not giving any excuses to Oscar and this terrible football he has been displaying lately. Nevertheless, it is ridiculous to doubt his character because of that. I didn't see anyone doing that to Hazard when he wasn't performing at the beginning of the season...

Virtually every highly rated youngsters that people have used the adjective for (Hazard, Gotze, Neymar,Isco) have shown glimpses of their playmaking potential in abundance at club level be it in past seasons or currently except our overrated amigo.

And being tactically astute and scoring a few cracking goals doesn't constitute playmaking btw not the last time I checked anyway.
