Oscar

Thought he was not very good but hard to judge with no real DM next to him and it being his first real game there. I'd like to see more of him there for sure and in time, I think he has the skills needed for the position.

Exactly this. Ramires isn't Romeu or Mikel, so the dynamics change for Oscar.

Highest pass completion, most successful tackles. It was a decent game for him in midfield. Definitely encouraged that he can play there, hope he's moulded into that role properly as his passing would be an asset in that deeper position along with his pressing and general energy

Stats never say it all and those are just one side of the story. Although he had the most successful tackles in our team, he also had the most unsuccessful tackles, which means he went to ground too often and let players past him. And even if he had the second most successful passes (after Mata) he had the fifth highest pass completion rate as opposed to Romeu who had the highest percentage before he came off.

Well i agree that Oscar needs to improve on his positioning but that's basically down to experience on that position and the right coaching.

The thing is i think our requirements for the double pivot are different because we're trying to play a different kind of football.

Imo 1 of the double pivot needs to be a creative player who can pass the ball quick, accurate and move forward.

I don't agree with Oscar having to pick his runs. Personally for me the fifth man is necesarry to play possession football and should always move forward. 1 holding midfielder shielding the back four is more then enough when we're in possession.

Well I disagree there simply because that's not how the defensive system in our current 4-2-3-1 works. Even in 4-3-3, you very rarely see 2 of the middle 3 in very advanced positions; for example when we played 4-3-3, when Lampard made his runs into the box Ballack/Tiago dropped behind the ball next to Essien/Makalele and when Ballack went into the box Lamps did the inverse.

Besides you are taking one of the major roles of the pivot out of the equation which is to cover for the attacking fullbacks. I think for the pivot to work properly the two need t be behind the ball for 90% of the game.

Oscar has scored 5 goals in this season's Champions League. Only Drogba, Anelka and Tore Andre Flo have scored more in 1 Champions League season for the club.

Drogba scored 6 goals in 06/07, 07/08 and 11/12 season. Anelka netted 7 in 10/11 season. And Flo scored 8 goals back in the 99/00 season.

Hah I started thinking, he has a chance to surpass them and then I remembered...:D

Brazils #10 , why change him, we ( mostly the English) seem to think he needs to change his game when in truth it is not neccessary. Our front four should be hazard, oscar, mata, and preferably Falcao. People need to look at players such as Moses (an ok player) and see that he is not CHELSEA quality. This is the reason that the English league is at an alltime low in the CHAMPIONS league. Ask yourself, would Moses get into any other top European side? if not, why should he get into a chelsea first eleven instead of oscar.

you still unfairly judging Moses ...again on a very short time he is showing he is worth his place

I like Moses starting every game. He balances out the 3 behind Torres IMO. If Oscar, Hazard and Mata was to play on the same pitch at the same time then Oscar should fall back in next to the DM. Mikel wins the ball, feeds it to Oscar and then he passes it off to one of the running front 3 (Torres, Moses or Hazard) for a more direct approach or pass to Mata for a slower buildup.

And he managed to do so just in the group stage! The others had actually more games and chances + they are strikers. Oscar - WOW!

Yes and let's not forget that this is his debut season in the Champions League and is only 21 y/o!

To turn a brazilian no.10 into a pivot player that means he will automatically loose his jersey in brazil squad never has oscar been played in the pivot what I've seen is oscar playing CM and AM so I don't know where you guys have seen oscar play in the pivot.

very poor game by him today

Yet he set up our first goal along with ashley cole and worked hard in midfield and created a decent chance for luiz. By your standards luiz must have had a terrible game and only mata and torres played well because they scored. WTF

I have to say I was shocked at not starting with Oscar. When you go into a final you have to play your aces, play the deadly trio and get at the opponents from the off. We were lethargic at times, it just didn't seem as if we knew it was a final (apart from Luiz). Moses was sub-par throughout and it took a goal to be conceded before Benitiz made his move, I can understand Oscar's frustration completely.

Just like Wenger at Bradford City, it was typical over-management by a manager. When you have superior talent, play them, don't fucking try to be so clever.

Excellent penalty yesterday. It doesn't get any more 'top corner' than that. It reminded me of Ballack's penalty against Breman a few years ago.

Although I don't like that Hazard has stopped taking penalties since he missed against Nordsjaelland.
