Waterfall 893
Even if they cost the same amount of money, I would have gone for Mata instead of Hulk. Never understood why the latter is so highly rated. Probably the name
KonohasOrangeFlash 2,607
Grossly overpriced and I fear for him that we won't be hearing much from him anymore now that he's gone to Russia (Same thing with Eto'o). He's 26 (?) so I doubt any big club will try to buy him again. Shame that he's practically stalled and damaged his career beyond repair. Firstly for agreeing a massive buyout clause with Porto was insane. They were always going to try to price him out of a move, especially from us. So he should have forced their hand by handing in a transfer request. This move however practically kills his career. He may even struggle to get into the Brazil team now. I'm even more disappointed in Witsel though.
Sir Mikel OBE 4,920
This is heartbreaking in all honesty. Not because we wont get him(I had pretty much accepted that), but because we are going to lose a dynamic footballer at the club level. We simply wont hear about him anymore. Eto'o is a much bigger name than him, and scores whenever he wants in Russia, and him boycotting the Cameroon national side is the first I have heard of him in a year.I do believe Witsel is young enough to where he can still create a career in a bigger league in the future though. Rmpr 8,977
Porto is biggest money making machine in the world of football. I doubt they spent 50mio in past ten years for their best players, and probably sold them for 250mio+Porto and Benfica are the best at spotting future stars and selling big!Porto: Falcao, Hulk, Moutinho (happening next year at most), Deco, Bosingwa, etc.Benfica: Luiz, Ramires, Di Maria, Javi, Witsel, etc

Tricky 301
I don't see the attraction of going to Turkey or Russia. The money may be there but the leagues aren't the best. Also Russia is Freeeeezing in winter!Anyway good luck to him. Porto must be fucking loaded. Speculation over.Porto are a business, I imagine profits shall be dished out to share holders. In fact I'd say Italian football is in decline, most of the clubs are struggling financially and corruption appears to be endemic (bye bye sponsorship). Rmpr 8,977
Its so hypocrite of you, football is just like every other profession. People can go to a smaller and lesser known company to have a hgher role and payment, why cant footballers do the same?A lot of us would do the same.... TacticalBlues 2,817
I wish him luck, but I feel sorry for him personally. - clearly wasn't the deal he was looking for. You can tell he's not nominally ecstatic about his transfer: "I had no reasons to leave, but my agent called me and told that Porto and Zenit have reached a deal. This will be good for me, Porto and Zenit." Porto as a club haven't looked at his interest as a footballer and his agents have more importantly failed him. Money has undoubtedly dictated this move.I know leagues are subjectively preferred, but the UEFA standings do objectively highlight the step down for Witsel (really gutted about Axel) and Hulk. They do have UCL though, and I hope they do well.

Manuf 1,448
Drogba is 34 and has been there, done it and won it all. Hulk is 26 and proved very little. Big differenceHulk has won Europe League and also Portugese League, Portugese Cup and Super Cup all of them thrice. Do you mean that in order to be proved you have to win anything in either Spain or England? Why do you discredit leagues that only differ from the others by the amount of money that attracts both better players and victories? Maybe by spending so much Zenit will try to go for some major trophy? And if you looked at the table that Eviltwinz posted Russian league is currently better than the Netherlands' one which consists of great football clubs like Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord.Besides Zenit is building quite an awesome squad including the likes of Criscito, Bruno Alves and Danny.
