Great to see him and Jose having a nice relationship despite all the media bullshit so far. A very good performance aswell.

Why wouldnt they? They are professionals. The problem is people buying into all rumours.

Its not as if David and Jose are reading all the bullshit "twitter sources" that people like to throw around here at these forums.

I was happy with his performance yesterday. He showed a lot of discipline that I did know he had in him. Despite a few small mistakes especially early on, he stayed close to the back four, rarely left gaps and kept his passing safe. It's quite an achievement for a CB to play like that in midfield.

But, tbh, I was probably just as happy when Jose confirmed after the game that he won't play him in there again unless he has no other choice. He's a CB and belongs in defense, imo.

Much better yesterday, hope he keeps this up but he won't be in CDM because Jose is anti-Rafa and today was just forced upon him especially with Ramires out, yesterday shown why Cahill will always be ahead of Luiz really unless Luiz changes his game which I doubt he will do.

Interesting article with interesting points.

The bit about leaving spaces behind was kinda expected though. DL was replacing Ramires, like some have pointed out in the comments section, and Ramires is hardly a player who sits nor is he a DM. Granted, Ramires has the pace (loads of it) to recover quickly once he/we lose possession, but that's not the case with Luiz. On the other hand, Luiz is a better passer than Ramires, so fair trade.

Personally, I'm just happy Jose won't snub a valid strategy just because Benitez did it before. Now if you work in teh press, would you ever believe whatever comes out of his mouth in the future?

Very poor article infact. First he says luiz waa brilliant in the first half and follows it up by saying that he was leaving space behind (which later got him the booking) and so mourinho had mikel to cover thay area. Reality is, leaving of space behind and booking happened in 2nd half after mikel came on the pitch.

True, but I usually like anything that makes me think even if for the wrong reasons.

I was the who posted on the pre-match thread that luiz was the best option to replace Ramires - even had a discussion with bushman (as usual) about it. In Jose's current system with deep defense line, I actually think luiz's talent is wasted so far away from attack as a cb. Again, Jose's job not mine. :)

Is that an attempt to blame things on Mikel? If yes, then that is seriously .

Don't get how is that a poor article. Michael Cox was just presenting the two sides of the coin with the use of Luiz in midfield and the task he was given to do. While we had a lot of success with it, it was inevitable to leave space behind given the task of Luiz and it was already evident from the start. In both halves, he had someone to sit behind and cover to allow him to do that. First was Lampard and then Mikel. Had the former not picked up an injury, he would have continued to do the same in the second half, like what he did in the first. Both were practically doing a very similar job in the pivot, covering Luiz and protecting the back four.

His primary task was to stop Henderson, which he performed superbly along with Lamps and latterly Mikel who stopped the service getting through to Suarez, this was one of the key ingredients to winning this game, obviously not taking anything away from JT's and Cahill's contribution either in marshalling the threat of Suarez.

Luiz's position splits opinion but I have always been firmly in the camp that he should play in midfield, we have lacked vision and awareness to start our attacks from deeper areas, our play has been slow and laborious, however we saw on Sunday he has the ability to move the ball quicker because he has the intelligence and confidence to pass the ball, this was obviously more notable in the first half. We also have the benefit of Luiz filling in for the CB's if they go forward, very similar to the way the great Makelele used to deputise for Carvalho when he used to bomb forward in Jose's first spell.

Unfortunately I'm not sure of Jose's intentions, this performance will at least give him food for thought......

Lampard did not sit as deep as Mikel does ,Luiz and Lampard both squeezed the play and neither just sat ,graphic evidence was the Lamaprd shot which nearly eqaulised ,have you ever seen Mikel as high up the pitch as that? no way Lampard sat ,if you had to press me Luiz played deeper in the first half this allowed us to take the game to Liverpool ,when Mikel came on the emphasis shifted and Luiz's game suffered and Liverpool put us under pressure,we were deep and that is when Liverpool nearly equalised .
