the Athletico match is another example, both were terrible

Luiz was the only terrible defender in that game, and he was responsible for all four goals that we conceded.

Here's a post I made after the game, those pictures should convince you

In none of those pictures can you say the goals were all solely Luiz's fault.

This is my qualm with people criticising Luiz. Every goal we concede is his fault though right...

I like you Skipper, but i have never once seen you come to terms about one player, ever.

I would love to of seen what you would've been like when Kalou was around. You just seem to make so many excuses for players, just accept David Luiz has been very bad and cost us, that doesn't mean you have to admit he's a bad player, because there's no fact in that to be honest.

I think Luiz is a terrible player full stop, i don't even think he will become good, but it's no fact.

I'll be the first one to admit that Luiz has been terrible over the last month, but that doesn't mean he's a terrible footballer. Luiz has shown to all of us, even though not consistently, that he does have the capability to produce excellent performances.

I try to be positive about every player - I liked Kalou as a player, never really slagged him off because his role was as a squad player... People expected out Salomon to produce world class performances whenever he played but I never had that sort of expectation about him, he was a quality squad player IMO.

Luiz's case is obviously different as he's obviously meant to be a first team starter - but I feel the media crucifix action of Luiz being a poor defender has actually gone to a lot of people's head, and with his poor performances recently people do the math and think "Oh wait, Alan Hansen is right" but no... I think Luiz is a really good player, his only problem is his inconsistency and that'll come with age. I'm willing to stick my neck out and say if we stick with Luiz now and let him mature for a season or two we will have an excellent defender on our hands.

That's just my opinion though, and I can agree with the criticism thrown at Luiz but some are way over the top - e.g. to blame all of the goals we conceded against Atletico on Luiz is ridiculous IMO. Our defensive organisation has been poor as a team for weeks now but people seem to shift all the blame to Luiz unjustifiably in my opinion.

I completely agree. Also, I don't think Luiz and Cahill will EVER be a good partnership. Whenever they play together, we have no 'leader' at CB, both of them are like headless chickens and we tend to leak 2-3 goals a game.

If we wanna see Luiz develop into a solid defender who has the odd poor performance, he needs to play alongside someone like JT for a full two seasons.

Luiz as an individual has been terrible and has made mistakes but that doesn't mean hes a shit footballer as the Skipper said. Cahill has also made mistakes as has JT this year. Look at the starting 11 we've put out every week and how many times has the whole team defender well together as a unit. Not once. We haven't defended as well bar the Barca games since under Mourinho imo.

You brought up this thing about his age earlier, but Luiz is not 22 or 23, he's 25 at the moment. He should be putting in better performances. I don't blame Luiz for atletico and i never have if that was aimed at me, infact i blame the huge gap with the defence and the midfield. But you wouldn't agree with it as i slated Mikel that time, no one was helping the defence out. The amount of space Falcao had was unforgivable, you don't give a player like him that much space, and our midfield was no where to be seen.

It's good to be positive but you can't be in denial, to be honest it's hard to come up with hope for David Luiz in my opinion. I had so much hope for him because when he first came he looked like he could of been the best defender we've ever had, those days are long gone, he's been nowhere near like that of late.

Him in the defence it just looks so vulnerable, i hate him at the back, i can't even watch sometimes.

What The Skipper said "In none of those pictures can you say the goals were all solely Luiz's fault.".

But i haven't hid the bad form he is in, the point i was trying to get across is Cahill is a bigger part of the problem that some believe/admit and the fact of the matter is neither deserve to be near the team on recent form and if Alex was still around neither would be, assuming Alex got out of the shite form he himself was in this time last year (ofcourse needless to say he didn't get half the flack Luiz is currently getting).

Think you made the point before. Both Cahill and Luiz should not partner each other at CB. Brings out the worst in them and they have looked much better when playing with either Ivanovic or Terry at CB instead.

Very Childish comment. Chelsea always come before Luiz. David Luiz arrived at Chelsea in 2011. Chelsea FC was formed in 1905. Many many defenders before 2011 had served Chelsea FC far better than David Luiz has done and/or been doing. He is 25 years old. By this time he should have the maturity that playing for any club (does not matter big or small) means a lot and you in no circumstances can defend so irresponsibly in so many matches. He is quite clearly the weakest link in our squad and directly responsible for our bad results.

You have tried to insult me. But I will in return just say that love CFC for sake of CFC, NOT for D.Luiz or F. Torres.

And yes! I am not an anti-Luiz fan. I hope that he stops taking the duty of defending lightly and helps CFC.

You just don't get it. I'm not trying to insult you or ask you to choose David Luiz over the club. I just think it is sad setting up your entire profile to show your hate towards one of our own players. Being unhappy and sometimes less patient with one of our players is one thing but putting pictures like that is another.

I'll be the first to call out Luiz's mistakes but like almost every opinion by Chelsea fans, the bashing has been OTT (just like the praising was OTT when we first bought him)

Anyway if Rafa is going to implement zonal marking that he will leave Luiz on the bench. Zonal marking takes 110% concentration and discipline for 90 mins and almost telepathic relation with other players.

It's only one game. We have seen him played well in one game before and then go completely crap in the next few games. He really needs to perform well consistently, like for 15-20 games at least.

Well it was first good game in a while, but Rafa will probably fix him.

Your are right. Luiz was a rock of a defender today. I mean he was up against Agüero, Dzeko, Tevez and Balotelli but never got beaten. Particularly liked when he came from behind to disposess Dzeko, the ball fell to agüero onyl for luiz to tackle him and defend the ball within one m² of space with 3 city players around him. he just dribbled past and drew the foul. This guy has all the tools to be any kind of footballer he wishes.
