Marquinhos to get PSG chance with Unai Emery right to sell David Luiz http://espnfc.com/club/paris-saint-germain/160/blog/post/2941931/marquinhos-to-get-psg-chance-with-unai-emery-right-to-sell-david-luiz

So we bought two rejects in David luiz and Alonso as the fiorentina fans are also happy he was sold......

At some point you just have to think logically.

Marquinhos joined PSG for a huge fee and in his first season he wasn't undisputed. Alex played more (alongside Silva) and was the one playing in the big games. PSG then bought Luiz (Alex left) and the first choice CB pairing was Luiz&Silva. Forget potential. How good is Marquinhos really if he couldn't get ahead of Alex and Luiz?

Don't think starters for their clubs can be considered rejects btw. I don't think they're top players but let's see how they'll do first.

Isn't it funny how Luiz and Ramos are both quite error-prone and make incredibly dumb moves at times yet the latter is praised into the heavens and the former is the butt of many jokes? Ramos has collected like 500 yellow cards and 200 red cards in his career as well.

Ramos is miles superior to luiz, so don't really see your point.

Ramos is a better defender, but I don't think the Gap is as big as you make it sound.

It's because of his hair and his personality that makes people think he doesn't take his job seriously when he makes mistakes. He's still an upgrade over anything we have and we shouldn't forget that when assessing this transfer, however idiotic it may seem.

Ramos is closer to Luiz than many people think. His defending is hilarious at times and he is one if not the most agressive CB out there, because timing and calmness are not his pros. Both are similar in defending, but Ramos makes less mistakes when going forward.

He is very passionate and scores lot of goals, thats why people like and rate him.

I wouldn't be so excited for this deal but knowing that Kante is there to cover for Luiz, this deal might just be the masterstroke by the Board we've all been waiting for. I mean, Kante has made Cahill-JT partnership very solid again. I'll bet he will make Luiz look like prime Ricardo Carvalho. Excited by this transfer!

And let's remember that we were never looking for the best defender for this position but instead Conte wanted a world class ball-playing CB. That is exactly what he was given.

Yeah agree with this. Ramos is a very talented player, but I've always felt he is no more than a slightly above average defender.

His mistakes aren't generally highlighted because he plays in a Real Madrid side who almost score at will at times, and a Spain side that have dominated until recently, so they aren't mistakes that cost games.

Unfortunately the Premier League is much tighter most of the time and a mistake can cost points.

Ramos is immensely charismatic and has scored big goals in his career but purely as a defender, he's not that good and that's my point. Completely disagree with him being miles superior.

Same with every "top" CB. They all make errors but because David is so colorful, outgoing, and such a huge personality he's scrutinized and criticized more than anyone else.

How many times did we see Kompany make stupid errors the last time he was fit for an extended period? So many. Ramos is hugely mistake prone. Thiago Silva is considered one of the two best CB's in the world but makes mistakes.

Gab Marcotti wrote a piece for ESPN this morning about Luiz and summed him up perfectly - When he does well no one remembers. When he does poorly no one forgets.

Hes a very good player the vast majority of the time and no one says anything. He has a single howler and its front page news.

You'd think him being a huge personality would work in his favour though. Look at Pogba, Zlatan, Ramos, Neymar (different personalities but big personalities nonetheless). All more loved more than hated.

Silva is top class for me (he's had some stinkers when he puts on that Brazil shirt though). Kompany is overrated for me. He was class for a few years (2011-2013) but hasn't been anywhere near as dominant as he used to be for years. Always disappointed in Europe as well. I will admit he was very good last season whenever he was fit though.

Read the same article and that line is indeed true. Luiz is a good player overall for me but a solid defender at best. Outside his howlers, his defending isn't the best overall tbh. Whether that's poor marking, being out of position, not reacting quick enough, giving away silly fouls and his strange decision-making at times when facing a 1-on-1 situation. The likes of Alex and Gallas for example were easily better defenders for me. Of course he offers other qualities they (or most defenders) didn't posses.

He is popular and loved though. I'm sure I read somewhere he has a bigger twitter or facebook following than Chelsea as a football club does.

The thing with popular big name players if they don't play for your club though is you love to see them make a mistake. If Zlatan missed a penalty or Pogba shanked a pass. And it's no different with David Luiz apart from if a keeper or defender makes a mistake it's highlighted more because it often leads to conceding a goal.

They both defend very individualistically. Act first, think later. Rather than to really work together with his partner.

At times Ramos looks like an amazing defender. He's very talented. But he does not possess the mind of a great defender.

Luiz has better a team around him this time. Assuming he'll play on the left, he'll have Azpilicueta alongside him. And he'll have Kante and Matic in front of him. And of course playing in a much better organised team compared to the one in his first spell.

Yeah but you won't catch many people saying he is the best or one of the best in his position. As a player he's criticised more than he's praised. Unlike the players I just mentioned.

Funny thought, Ramos is respected, but Marcelo on other hand recieved shitload of mock for his defending for years. Interesting, he is, like Luiz a funny guy. When you look all those videos about Marcelo or Luiz and then watch them defend badly in game, obviously people will make more fun of them.

However, Marcelo is one of best fullbacks in the world regardless. Luiz simply has bad luck for being CB because that is the position, you need to be absolutely serious or points get dropped. However he is not as bad as people think.
