Defensively yes but again until we get someone else better defensively who can do half of what he can doΒ with the ball, he will be a regular. Sarri probably pushing for him to get a new deal just like he pushed for Pedro to get a new contract in the summer.

Time for Sarri to get "creative" and identify someone who can do a better job then. Sticking with Luiz isn't going to get us anywhere.

Unfortunately we are transfer banned. Talk of Varane wanting out of Real but there is absolutely no chance we would get him, unless Real throw him in Hazard deal. Varane would be an unbelievable signing by all accords, struggled at times this year but has been playing at an extremely high level for 6 years. 26 years old. Would be a brilliant signing.

That remains to be seen.

Otherwise, look at the loanees!Β

Zouma? Jesus imagine him playing out from the back, solid enough defensively but still doesnt read the game any better than he did when he started playing here, too reliant on his pace and that will cost us goals. Tomori isnt ready and the likes of Kalas, Clarke-Salter, Miazga.... not a lot there.

"Progressive"Β managers tend to rate sweeperΒ keepers and CBs that are not actuallyΒ good at defending if they are able to help reciclating possession. Guardiola loves it too.

I would prefer two skilful fulbacks even if they are not that good in defense but always line up a strong pair of traditional CBs.Β

Given how our whole defense used to boot the ball up under Jose and Conte, and how nervous we looked whenever the defense had the ball, I would have said the same about our whole defense. That is what sarri is there to do, teach zouma how to play out the back.

Why is tomori not ready? Does he let his man run freely into the box to score? No? Then he is more ready than this piece of shit.

Puyol was a mainstay of the pep pepe Barca. His captain. And I have never heard anyone say that puyol was not good at defending.

Even these days he has kompany playing while stones is warming his ass on the bench.Β

When Guardiola became Barcelona manager Puyol was already captain, leader of the group and a starter for more than 9 years. Also that was 2008. I'm talking about the current trend among hipster managers.

Β

You mentioned Kompany but surely City areΒ not playing withΒ just one CB? Who is their other starter CB? Is the french David Luiz Aymeric Laporte. Error prone like David Luiz. Slightly worse with the ball.

But if his preference was a ball playing CB over someone who can actually defend, then surely puyol would have been out. It's not as if pep was shy of making changes. He threw Yaya out of the team for a very very young and unproven busquets. If puyol was not his type of player, then surely he would have gotten the same treatmentΒ

Regarding city, Laporte is not as good a ball playing defender as stones, but is definitely a better defender than stones. As far as I see it, pep is playing his 2 worst ball playing defenders in kompany and Laporte over stones and otamendi.

And that would not happen if he just chose defender on their "ball playing" ability rather than actual defending.

Wow this guy is exposed without Rudiger next to him.

To be fair to Luiz, he looked exposed even with a prime silva next to him. He would look exposed with a prime cannavaro/nesta/beckenbaeuer next to him

Facts are facts mate. With David Luiz playing as our main CB we won UCL 7 years ago, he was aΒ  starting XI when we won PL 2 years ago...and guess what, David Luiz is back in the team and we are back to UCL.

It just doesnt make any sense. He was part of those teams and he helped the team to achieve those things.Β

In Sarri team he is a key player, no matter what you say.
