What is the protest about? and why did the activists clash with police?

The political system in Bahrain is a dictatorship like all of the gulf. And it so happens that the people in power belong to certain sect (Sunna) and persecute the rights of the other sect (Shiite) despite 90% of the population being Shiite. There have been protests for over two years now and the protesters are being murdered by the police on a regular basis. The KSA even sent an army to help the Bahraini army against the unarmed protesters. But the fight there means very little for any of the regional and international powers that it has barely been mentioned in the media.

Anyway, it just seemed absurd to me to hold an F1 race when their people are dying on the same streets..

I meant the international media. Even in the regional media here, it just gets casually mentioned in the news for 10 seconds. No idea what their local media is reporting but I guess normally it will side with people in power.

So, yesterday, I saw on the television that two "terrorists", who were planing a terrorist attack on the train going from Toronto to New-York (or the other way, I don't recall), were arrested.

Surprise surprise, authorities claimed that it was two terrorists trained by Al-Qaïda in camps in Iran.

In other words, they were trained by an organisation which doesn't exist in a country which USA would like to attack (it's an open secret, I guess). Do you remember the last time that US government threw the wild card "Al-Qaïda" ? Exactly. As time goes by, I guess we can start to picture what's the situation all about.

Thought for the day;

According to Oxfam's estimates, almost $18.5 trillion is being held for individuals in tax havens, one third of it in British Overseas Territories and crown dependencies.

This is a conservative figure. Even so $18.5 trillion would yield $156 billion to tax authorities around the world, whilst the cost of providing every person on earth with an income of $1.25 a day would be $66 billion.

Colombia is a poor, too religious country :(. In the north, in the poor village, it is very bad to make love to the women before marriage.. so the boys have sex with the burro :mouthclosed: :mouthclosed:.. I think in English, you say donkey?

And in the politics, there is too much religion also.. not good :(

Does anyone get the feeling facism and far right ideologies are on the rise? Even lately I've met some very far right idealists.

What's worse is that I believe sooner or later a major European power will fall back under the spell of extreme right... England seems ripe for the taking right now, but it could be anyone from Spain to Italy.

The economic state of all those countries you mentioned isn't really promising...

Economical crisis always make far right ideologies rise!

Soooo fed up with politics. It is literally everywhere I look and everyone I talk to they're all talking politics all the time. What's sad is that politics in the area are completely out of the hands of not just the people but even the leaders of Lebanon. All they do is make it worse. Want to a 'solution' for the middle east? The only solution is kill every one who lives here, me included, and get new people to come and live here.

As Amels and Rmpr rightly said, the long-term financial situation we've been in (5 years now?) was bound to breed such thoughts. People are getting desperate and this is the resulting effect. What's bad is that it's even affecting the intellectuals and well educated. I'm used hearing the old rhetoric about how bad Islam is, how we should stop immigration etc from the lower IQ percentile, but now it's spreading a bit more.

Still not worried though, there's still far more sensible people in Britain who don't buy into all this EDL crap. UKIP is just another trend in this country. Same happened when the BNP got in a few votes, scared all the main parties, and next election the BNP lost all their seats lmao.

The Western infatuation with trying to "fix" the Middle East is certainly something I can't blame you for being fed up over. All I see is "intervention" this, WMD-that..
