“In its place a single league stage, which includes all 36 participating teams, would be devised which would see every team guaranteed 10 'league stage' matches.

Five of those matches would be at home and the other five would be away from home.

The top eight sides from that 'league stage' format would progress to the knockout stage automatically.

Those remaining sides running from ninth to 24th would then enter two-legged eliminators to determine the other eight teams into the last-16”

Hows this new CL revamp supposed to be better? Uefa needs to show something better.

And the rest...

More from Jurgen Klopp: "I'm 53. Since I've been in professional football, the Champions League has been there. My aim was always to coach a team there. I have no issues with the Champions League.

"I like the competitive aspect of football. I like that West Ham might play in the Champions League. I don't want them to because we want to but I like they have the chance. What can I say? It's not easy.

"What I want to say as well, I've heard a few things but what I really don't like, Liverpool football club is much more than some decisions. The most important part of football are the supporters and the team. We have to make sure nothing gets between that. I've heard there are banners but the players didn't do anything wrong. We have to all stick together. We can show nobody has to walk alone in these moments. There are things to sort but nothing to do with the football or the relationship between the supporters and the team.

"In tough times you have to show you stick together. It doesn't mean you have to agree with everything but again the boys did nothing wrong. I want to make sure everyone knows that.

"I understand it. I am in a different position. I don't have all informations. I don't know exactly why the 12 clubs did it. I know some things will change with football in the future. Some things have to change in football that is for sure.

"Usually you have to prepare these kinds of things, it takes time."

I notice the managers of the clubs affected are all sitting on the fence 😁 and making meaningless statements- if they slag it off the owners wont be happy with them

The timing of the statement makes me wonder. Could it be that discussions in the background did not satisfy the big clubs nor the possible discussions brought any compromise for neither side, and they wanted to make a statement to "one up" UEFA's imminent public proposal? Either way I'm more than certain that these things will play out - there's too much money on the line for all sides involved. And I must reiterate - UEFA/FIFA /... are NOT the victims, they're all the same.

I think Dortmund, Porto, and RB Leipzig will be advanced to the semi finals

I think they should take us Real and City out and put the likes of Porto through, Dortmund through and make Leipzig/Atalanta play and put one of them through as they played against Liverpool and Madrid. It would send a message.

People may think is a bit ridiculous but they have to send a message.

There are also rumours we and City are looking at a way out if it already, due to the backlash from all the governing bodies and fans etc but honestly, thats even worse than joining it in the first place due to fear of missing out/being left behind. Knowing it wasn’t the right thing to do by the fans and jumping in to it with reservations is an absolute embarrassment and everyone one of them should be sacked.

Thing is now lets say this super league goes ahead, teams leave domestic leagues, dont play world cups or euro tournaments, whats to stop other teams breaking away and forming other leagues in the future also? People dont seem to understand the magnitude of it. Its going to rip football apart.

The owners of the 12 clubs, including ours, deserved to be hammered for agreeing to the Super League.

But what I don't think is deserving is that us fans and especially the players get denied the chance to win the Champions League because of a decision made by the higher-ups and not them or us. Why are UEFA trying to punish the players, to render their effort in the previous rounds useless because of someone else's making? These players dream of competing and winning the Champions League in their career. Us fans dream of seeing our club win the biggest prize there is in Europe. Why should we have that taken away from us because of ultimately one person's decision here? Why? The players and fans did not ask for this.

True but what is the best way to hurt a clubs owners than kick them out a competition that if they win they get a 100m prize from? Or strip their titles? Or ban them from being in domestic leagues?

Aye it is not fair on fans or players but shouldn’t clubs owners not have thought about this before agreeing to it? When it was obviously going to be objected to? Thats why fans and players should be going to clubs and asking what the fuck is going on?

There can be no half measures. Even the stripping titles point Gary Neville made yesterday. They should consider it. Send a message. No club or collection of clubs is bigger than FIFA, UEFA or their domestic leagues footballing associations.

If they are talking about sending an instant message its the only way. If they back down now people will just do what they want cause they can get away with it.

Those afraid we will be kicked out of CL need not fret..... legally the team kicked out can sue for breach of contract

And FIFA, UEFA etc can surely also sue the clubs no? Any club who does get kicked out has a real cheek to sue them for this. They made their bed the minute they put their name to this idea, they have to lie in it now. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs a reality check
