On Forbes list of top50 most valuable sports teams you have just 7 football clubs.

Real 6th

Barca 8th

United 10th

Bayern 24th

City 34th

Chelsea 37th

Arsenal 47th

Something is clearly wrong here because football is by far most popular sport in the world. I think for clubs money is most important so this Americanization of football should put them on top.

They want to do this because UEFA was not able to do it. We dont care about this but our board must ask why teams in American football from small American cities with less than 1m population are worth more than global brand like our club. Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens... Even same baseball teams we never heard of are worth more... Yankees are kings of marketing and making money. Football is watching 4 billion people in the world and how much people watch baseball and NFL? Outside of USA not popular sports at all. Yet they make more money.

Can't believe the statement on the Chelsea site about the instability in the economic model due to pandemic when we have spent 200m on players. Disgusting stand taken by Chelsea and the rest of them.

Do you watch US sports? Do you know what happened to Lakers for almost a decade before the last sesson. Or bulls since Jordan.

Most of these franchises are cash cows to the owners. There is no relegation, there is guaranteed success, hell they are even incentivized for failing dreadfully by giving a higher draft pick year after year.

If this goes through, clubs like arsenal will be FINISHED. Kroenke is not going to invest a dime of his money in the club when he is Guaranteed an "elite status".

Domestic league will have no meaning for most of the teams after 2 months as 2nd place will be worth as much as 17th. Games will lose value, players will stop caring (happens every year in nba when they just "tank").

Read about Orlando magic and what they did this season by trading away their 3 best players, just for a better draft pick.

This americanization of football will not be the death of football. It will just create a power vaccum which will be taken up by uefa and fifa. True fans of football will shift allegiance to a club better placed morally while fa and the governing bodies crack down on owners and internal investments so that this never happens again.

But most of the clubs which have pledged allegiance to the devils won't make it out without being bruised and battered, either by fans, or by uefa or by their own owners.

Don't make this out to be the perfect solution to the uefa/fifa problem cause it's not. It's a cash grab by Yankee billionaires and power hungry whores and smacks of entitlementism. Only way out of it is absolute and complete black out of this event by fans, players, managers.

This is gonna end footy as we know it, im ashamed Chels got involved in this. Just alone the cunts mentioned who will be running this shit is enough in it self. And what EU pedigree does spurs and arsenal have since they deserve to be invited permamently? Ohh they have US owners. CL still needs a radical change imo but this is anti footy and RA should be ashamed. And fuck those US bastards behind this, fuck glazers and those mafia scum in juve.

Looks like most people are against of this super league but I’m curious about it..

As everything, football also needs new formats sometimes. I don’t believe current Champions League is the perfect format which we should stick to forever. Of course, this super league might not be working, but why not try?

CL is getting kinda boring. Hundreds of teams in Europe’s leagues can qualify, 32 teams can make it to the group stages but still pretty much the same teams make it to final 16/8 every year, why not try to skip the “playing against eastern European teams” part? I know it’s important and delightfup for some people, Hungarian side Ferencvaros made it to group stage this season which I loved but they never had a chance for a second, for Barcelona and Juventus it was a waste of time to play against them.

Maybe it’d be better to see top players against top players every week instead of watching top teams destroying Krasnodar/Crneva Zvezda/Young Boys with their B-sides.

Last night, when 12 big clubs of the Superleague announced resignations from ECA (association of European clubs). They also resigned from all UEFA committees and panels with Agnelli leaving the ECA management, Nasser Al-Khelaifi becomes it’s executive boss.

Hello 🙂

Came back to read what everyone was thinking about this and thought I'd throw in my two cents.

I think as several here already said that the initial negative backlash is to be expected and most likely already calculated by the 12 clubs. I also think that UEFA have a lot less power in this than they think and that their initial response basically showed all their cards to everyone. I genuinely think that this will go through and the 12 or 15 will get what they want.

Side note: The hypocrisy of the Premiere League condemning a bunch of big clubs creating a break-away league is quite hilarious 😅

My issue with the opposition to this league is that it all seems as fake shock and outrage that this will make football all about money and not fans as if this hasn't already been the case for decades; as if football hasn't already been destroyed by advertisements and brands when players are making millions and clubs are run like companies. (Cue Garry Neville talking about money alienating real working class football fans on sky-bloody-sports of all places 😂 ) It's all disingenuous because skyports are really (or at least partially) against this because it cuts into their profits, and same goes for UEFA, the PL and even the clubs not included in the league. We all know none of them actually care about the fans, the working class roots of football, or the 'real supporters in this country' whatever the hell that means.

The bottom line is that football including all current top leagues and every single club in them are there to maximize profit and the 12 clubs here are doing just that.

But the thing about this proposed league that I find genuinely threatening to world football is not how much money oriented it is (which to be clear I despise but am resigned to accept as the driving force of football today), it's the attempt at monopolization by the 'founding 15'. The fact that the way the league is built does not allow any of the 15 to ever be relegated is where they probably put their greed over all other interests in my opinion. Because not only would that decrease the motivation and quality in the league over time, I think it would greatly increase animosity towards it. Because one of the very basic and most appealing aspects of competitive sports is that those competing are provided equal chances on a level playing field. Say Leicester and Seville or whoever finish above Arsenal and Tottenham as they likely would in a season like this but they get 'relegated' while the other two stay because they are from the 'founders'. That would have lots of fans losing interest in the league and would increase hate for the clubs that can't get relegated. Take that away level playing field in a sport and you're destroying the fascination in it, imo.

I think overall we're still early days and we're going to hear and learn a lot more about this. Personally, I'm still on the fence about it, but hence why I'm back here!

Oh and one more side point: it's quite depressing reading about UEFA threatening to relegate teams and ban players when their money is at stake whereas we've been hearing for years that the height of their powers is a few thousands pounds fines when dealing with racism in the game...
