to be honest I'm surprised he's doing so well.

I like him, but I tend to agree with @The only place to be that he's nothing special.

Maybe he did come too early here and is only now resuming his development from when he was in Brazil.

I still don't think he's that much technical, but if he's lethal, he doesn't need to be the guy with the best technique around. Players who capitalize is what we miss the most now imo, whether in defense or attack.

Watched the second half and what a game he had. Two goals as well as an assist and he was unlucky not to get more, he made a great pass to Atsu whose shot hit the post and had a few chances of his own to get the third goal.

Even though being a star man in the Eredivisie isn't much, at least he's playing a lot of games and getting his confidence back. At his age that's what matters most. Next season will be crucial for his development when he gets sent on loan to a tougher league and he has to prove his worth there as well. Maybe the Bundesliga would be a good fit for him next year?

I'm really shocked by some people here. He does not do nothing special? If 10 goals and 8 assists isn't special enough in Eredivisie then I don't know. We bought MVG from same league and he was big there, the man who is currently tearing apart the same league isn't good. Something is wrong here.

Piazon is basically the Brazilian version of Thomas Muller. In what way is that not special? Ambidextrous, exceptional work rate, decent in the air, great finisher, creative & has an excellent touch. He's not an exceptional dribbler nor is he the fastest but his IQ and movement are both exceptional.

I understand people reluctant to go overboard with praise because of the League he's playing in but what he's doing at just 19 is exceptional in my eyes. He's practically carried perennial bottom dwellers like Vitesse to 1st place. He's 3rd in the League in goals scored, 2nd in assists.

He's very strong mentally, extremely confident and has a certain maturity about him.

I think his future is as a 9.5/False 9.

I'm still convinced that his future is as a striker or a supporting striker.

I think he could play anywhere. The way he's pressing, tackling and intercepting non stop has really surprised me, I never thought he had that in his locker, add that to the pace and acceleration he's been showing leads me to think he can be moulded to play in any attacking position. He's got the technique, skill and the ability to play with either foot, he's only 19, I'm curious to see what he'll be like when he's 22.

Definitely one of our most promising prospects along with Boga and RLC. He just needs another good loan like this one next season if we don't want to give him a chance here.

Indeed. I think he's gonna be a top player, probably not for us as we are stoked in the attacking positions, but who knows he might force his way into the side in a year or two.

but if he can play as a second striker or a false 9 then we have more than enough space for him next season...

anyway, I'd keep him on loan another season - but I don't see a problem if he stays in Vitesse. Chelsea have more control over them than anywhere else... players his age (especially his position) need a lot of playing time and confidence. I don't think he has a problem handling physicality, he's big and he's strong and he already presses very high and he can tackle. I'd rather him there than another Malaga nonsense.

People suggested Bundesliga, but it's yet another La Liga, it's too polarized, and only has a bigger name, but for mid-table teams (which realistically is what he'd get) isn't that much interesting imo.

A lot of you seem impressed with him, I have to admit I've barely seen Lucas ever since he left Sao Paulo, and he was 17 back then, so maybe he's this player you guys keep describing, but he never seemed like someone especially talented, but someone very objective and with good individual results. Hopefully you're right and there's more to him

I think he should be fine as long as we don't do something stupid like loan him to the championship for example.

Whats wrong with a loan to the Championship?

He could spend 90 days with Zola's Watford and get a better understanding about the physical side of English football

Piazon's biggest attributes, for me, is his tactical awareness and movement, along with his excellent technical ability. That all goes to waste in the championship. He's the kind of player that needs quality players around him to show what he can do.

Plus, I'm not sure Zola is going to last much longer at Watford...

Piazon seems to be one of the best players in the eredivisie. He has nothing to do in the Championship. I think most Premier League teams would be happy to have him on loan.

I think that's the plan. If Vitesse keep it up then they qualify for the CL next season and that's what Chelsea wants. I think they'll consider it more important to have an established CL side that we can loan players to than it is to bring Piazon back next year.

Or they could just replace him with another young player who will probably qualify for us as 'club-trained'.

Exactly. I read reports recently that Liverpool and Tottenham are interested in making an offer for him, he's way too talented for the Championship. He's 19, by the time he's 22 I see him being a top player, maybe not for us, but still.
