Big ups to GC. I will sometimes make fun of him when he's failing or simply doesn't look the part to me. But he's been really good these past two games. Taking responsibility and defending proactively rather than playing cautiously and waiting to react, to avoid mistakes (even though lack of action is just as bad as making errors).

Maybe the mask brings out his inner superhero. The Blue Falcon. I dig.

Do you think its because he's playing next to Azpilicueta instead of iva?

Definitely plays a big part. He provides such quality support and prevents the CB having to defend 1 v 1, getting outnumbered or defending a vast amount of space. All of a sudden you see Gary, all confident, coming out of defence trying to get an early tackle in or apply pressure. He feels safe.

Where's the cojones on this guy? Mr England international should be organizing that defense in J.T.'s absence on set pieces vs Porto and everyone else in general. He can't even win the fucking arm band over Iva and just takes a backseat in the shadows as usual making Zouma do the dirty work. He just plays in reverse all day. Just a big wussy who belongs elsewhere.

"Gary Cahill has to some extent occasional back problems. We were a bit concerned with the flight and the artificial pitch, so in a choice of taking him or Smalling, I went with Smalling."

So should we and Chelsea Medical staff be concerned on Euro away legs that involve a longish flight...Kiev and Maccabi for example?

Or is Roy just covering up the fact that Jose has requested him back conveniently forgetting Cahill might have to fly these type of distances in the near future?

'Occasional' back problems? That's news. Guess it's just a minor thing since we hadn't heard it being mentioned before the England match.

I give this guy a ton of credit. Went thru a real rough patch last season, got benched, then came out the other side and has played well. Truly seems like he cares about the results and plays his heart out.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is running out of time to secure a new long-term contract with the Blues, reports The Sun.

The 6ft 4in centre-back turns 30 in three weeks on December 19th, with the West London club having a policy of only offering one-year deals to players over that age.
