BlueLion. 21,491
Cahill was indecisive. It was a defensive error and he played his part. Played the striker onside, did he not? Didn't read the turn in play. Chelsea Legend 11
cfcs most wanted 657
i don't know why people keep blaming cahill for chelsea's performance, to me the real problem is that after ivanovic goes forward he can't come back into his position quickly to cover leaving cahill exposed . i think mou should not allow ivanovic to get forward because it leaves the defence exposed iseah100
Popular Post! Stats 7,142 Posted August 2, 2015 Popular Post! Share Posted August 2, 2015 Excellent game today. I really don't see how people claim he is not good with the ball. How much times today did he use the ball effectively and keep possession and on top of that was just formidable. In the air or on the floor, he coped with everything. But because it is Cahill he won't get the credit he deserves until he makes 1 mistake and everyone just wait for the perfect opportunity to hammer him. didierforever, stroey, Bosnian Blue and 3 others

Also nice pace against Cazorla and Walcott twice intercepting their runs. Decisive stepping out of the line. We would be bollocks to get rid of him. Still has a good 2-4 years in him. More than JT and Iva for sure. If we sign Stones, he will be a great squad option for years to come.Yes last season was not his best, had some big errors, but so had Ivanovic and even Azpi. If he can recover his form of 2012 to early 2014 he doesn't need much protection or a deep line. iseah100 and Stats

Cahill for the majority of last season was good but people only seem to want to remember his bad games. One thing for sure is if Cahill had made any error today this thread probably would have gone in to meltdown with people mocking him. But it is funny how it is all silence when he is performing. I will maintain it now that he is one of the best ball playing defenders in the league. Not saying he is the best but he is up there. I have seen him used the ball well loads of games. I don't begrudge people of criticising him but I just don't like when people fail to recognise his qualities and dismiss him as some average CB which he is not. He should've taken them off instead. xPetrCechx
robsblubot 3,595
SA players who can do these sharp turns in tight spaces are a nightmare for him.Doesn't even take an aguero - remember guerrero from Corinthian in the wcc ?It's not like Gary is a bad player, just not good enough if we want to compete against teams who have players like Aguero up front. Have seen him struggle against lesser strikers for England when they played the likes of Slovenia, Estonia, Moldova etc.
Blue Colored Sky 1,807
We have too many squad players playing as our core first XI. Gary Cahill, another player who has to be predominately squad player, is our go to guy in every game at every level. As 3rd or 4th option, I take him in a hearbeat, but as undoubted first XI, no. His shortcomings are exposes in every bad manner when he faces enough talent (which doesn't mean Aguero type talent by any stretch). Too erratic and you can't count on him reading ball well enough to step out of his shell and intercept the ball. Every centre half who is recognized as the best is doing that. BlueLyon 9,359
As if other so called world class cbs like Pique, Ramos or Silva dont make mistakes FFS.Football today has no old school defenders like Terry, Puyol, Vidic etc anymore which is a shame. Those were the real defenders, not some wannabes like Ramos or Pique...
