I cut almost 7 Million a year off player wages.

Well, with half the season gone, here's an update on things in sunny Portugal:

As predicted, we have finally started to slide down the league table, but a top 5 place looks all but assured, with 6 placed Nacional de Madeira 9 points adrift of Atletico.

We were of course cruelly eliminated on the final day in the Europa League, here's how the group stage turned out:

The Taca de Portugal at this point is shaping up to be a Porto-Atletico affair, after the first legs; we lead Leiria and Porto lead Vitoria Guimares , with

both second legs due to be played away from home.

We're topping the group in the League Cup, with one game to play, as long as we avoid defeat, we should be through to the next stage.

In the transfer market, I snapped up two potential gems of players at obscenely low prices:

Thompson here cost 35k, and he already looks like a fairly good centre back. He could be world class.

Gueye came in on a free transfer, and he's already worth so much. That's an indicator that he will be one of the players of his generation, or I'll make a massive profit off him- I could well fetch 5 million on him in a couple of years.

I've taken the heartbreaking decision to sell Vaguinho. He's 31 and has failed to capture his first season form, and he's very injury prone. Bahia came in with 1.1 million pounds (wow!) and I had to take that, that was 300k more than he's worth.

Porto are up next in the fixture list, followed by the League Cup Final against Benfica. An insane run of 3 incredibly tough games in 10 days.

On the flipside, things have taken a turn for the worse in the league:

Benfica play Guimares in the league in 3 weeks time. I hope for a draw. Or a Guimares win, provided they don't overtake my goal difference. But, we also have to play Sporting CP- runaway leaders who'll want to mathematically kill off any chance of a Porto league win, and lift the trophy in their own stadium in front of their fans.

Here's how things look going into the last day:

Benfica travel away to 11th placed Trofense. We are away to 13th placed Leiria, who are in a relegation dogfight. If we scrape into the CL, it'll be entirely down to my goalkeeper, Caleb Patterson-Sewell; who has been absolutely outstanding in the last few weeks:

Saved us twice against Benfica, conceded 3 to Olhanense and 2 to Sporting but still ended up pulling out a rating above 9.

Onto the last day we go....
