Frank Lampard

His tackling was his only weakness. His technical ability is second to none. His passing was phenomenal, especially his long passing when coupled with excellent vision. But most of all he was a very intelligent. He literally ran the midfield and controlled the whole game by himself. He could also get forward and score when needed. I'd personally take Scholes over the likes of Xavi and Pirlo anytime.

But anyway that is just my opinion. Game of opinions..

of course ,,,but your opinions are just that ,,how much of Scholes have you actually SEEN?

Jamie Carragher believes Frank Lampard is second only to Steven Gerrard in the list of best English midfielders of the Premier League era, ranking him above Paul Scholes.

The retired defender is adamant the 35-year-old Chelsea midfielder, who has notched 166 goals in the top flight of English football, has been the more influential than Scholes and says he has not received the plaudits he deserves.

ENGLAND LATEST 8/1 Frank Lampard is 8/1 with BetVictor to score first against Everton

“Frank has a catalogue of golden moments and, for that reason, I have him behind Steven but ahead of Paul Scholes in my list of the Premier League’s top three English midfielders,” Carragher wrote in his column in the Daily Mail.

“I know Barcelona’s Xavi described Scholes as the best midfielder of the last 20 years but Frank has influenced more big games — his goals clinched Chelsea’s first title in 2005, he has won them an FA Cup final and scored in a Champions League final.

“He has also played more and scored more for England, and his tally of 166 Premier League goals — the highest by a midfielder — outstrips the 107 Scholes scored.”

Lampard and Gerrard were often criticised for failing to work well as a partnership for England, but Carragher believes the lack of success the pair enjoyed should be blamed on former Three Lions boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.

“I was adamant [Lampard] merited playing alongside Gerrard. If anything, Eriksson made a mess of whether Gerrard and Lampard could be a partnership. Of course they could have,” Carragher continued.

“A strong manager would have told Steven to play the holding role — that is more in his make-up — and to let Frank go forward.

“But he didn’t. He fudged it. That’s why Scholes ended up out on the left and eventually in international retirement.

“This is not an attack on Scholes — it is anything but. It is just important to illustrate what Lampard has achieved as I don’t believe he has had the credit he deserves.”

Gerrard is my mate but Lampard was the best attacking midfielder and Gerrard should have played deeper to accomodate Lampard.

Mostly since 2002. I know that not everyone appreciates what Scholes does, I just think it is the most important job on the pitch. And Scholes was the best at this particular job, imo.

So we must have scored 5 today and did not need a threat from midfield? Did anyone have a decent shot from outside the box? Mikel had one first half ,did I say decent?

Did anyone time a perfect run into the box to finish off our approach play? as well as recovering his position when not in possession.

One can only hope Jose has learned he was right in the first place on Lampard, resting him after a difficult week playing for England and with the champions league in mind is a luxury we are unable to afford,as today showed.

Lampard was a passenger today. Right decision to leave him out. Wrong decision to get him on especially for a wide player like Schurrle.

Mikel-Ramires was the right pivot. Mikel, in particular, had a good game

We lost 1-0 and difficult to score when you are on the bench,Lampard is never a passenger when he plays ,Mikel was ok for him ,but he is a passenger in the bigger picture.

He played ,we lost again. Ramires,Mikel is a poor partnership but anyone Mikel is a poor partnership inc Lampard-Mikel.

Lampard must be back for the Champions League ,my only take on yesterday was ,Jose was saving him after a tough week playiing for England and we paid the price again with another loss when Mikel plays. The stats do not lie ,when he plays we are likely to lose .

4-4-2 with Gerrard Lampard was such a bad idea.

At their clubs, they had Mascherano and Alonso behind for Gerrard, and Makelele Ballack or Essien behind Lampard.

I'm sorry this is by far the most laughable post I have ever seen on this forum. The arselicking Lampard gets despite playing very bad is ridiculous and the amount of abuse Mikel gets despite being our best player against Everton is laughable.

Since AVB came in Lampard has been a passenger in at least half of the games upto now. He was particularly good in the CL final along with Mikel, he scored some vital goals but he didn't play well a lot of the time.

Sure Mikel-Lampard isn't a decent partnership because whenever we lose the ball Lampard is halfway up the park, leaving Mikel exposed as we seen under Robbie in several games. The pivot was the weakest part of our team when he played at times, not always because of Lampard no that would be slightly unfair to say but teams were passing by Mikel because he was exposed a lot.

The stats do not lie? We won the biggest club trophy in football playing Mikel-Lampard together.... stick your stats right up your arse. I couldn't give a fuck how many games we've lost with Mikel in the team, we've won a few PLs, however many FA cups, the Champions League and Europa League with him in our team since he came here.... he probably has over 200 Chelsea appearances, how many have we won with and without him in the team out of all of them? Probably won at least 70% so ram your stats where the sun doesn't shine.

Well lets have a look at the stas when the arselicking Lampard has played this season and when he has not?

You are a disgrace son for disrespecting a Chelsea legend and sucking up to the Emenalo arse licking Mikel ,who else is picking a player who when plays ,we are likely to lose? If it is not his mate?

100million + of midfield attacking talent out there and it is still down to Lampard to produce the passes that penetrate and create our goal and the chance for Eto'o where he was slow to react ,Rammy's running power was sorely missed as well. It has to be Rammy and Lampard as the two genuine midfielders now after that weak performance.

How about when he was completely invisible when Basel actually tried to attack and fight the midfield battle. Heck, I wouldn't even call it a battle, we just gave them control over the midfield as the game was too big for MVG and Lampard was no where to be seen defensively. I think the only defensive action he did all game was a clearance from a corner in the first half. Even Jose knew that he should come off because he was offering very little for the team, it was like we were playing with 10 men in defense.

He is a midfielder, not an attacker. 1 assist or even 1 goal does not justify being invisible for the rest of the 90 mins.
