That is quite misleading with Xavi and Iniesta (and not just the fact that they have played a lot less games). For the last decade Lampard's game has been making as many runs into the box as possible to score goals. With Xavi and Iniesta its more about staying in the middle of the pitch to dictate play. That is why they don't have as many assists, although Xavi is only 10 behind him with a lot less games played.).

Lampard has to be more like Xavi or Iniesta in terms of staying in the midfield and not making stupid runs every time we get the ball into the opposition half, but he seems more concerned on becoming the all time top scorer and is completely neglecting his duties in the double pivot. This is why I feel that if we continue with the 4-2-3-1 we need a different partnership in the 2 man DM

Well he has 10 more assists than Xavi in 121 games - but has 155 MORE GOALS...

Stat's can be used to persaude any argument...

Fact is Frank is one of the best midfielders of ALL time... Rather than slagging him off, we should be looking to use him as SAF does with Scholes @ United...

BUT - we have RDM in charge, not SAF - so that's unlikely to happen until something crazy happens, knocked out of CL group - or finish below 4th...

And why should he suddenly change his game - if that's what he knows and is used too - at 34 you can't expect him to change, so see above comment - we should be using him ala Scholes for Manure...

EDIT: Also, as Lampard has hardly had any injuries - his appearance record is second to none... Hence why more games than Xavi...

Because the way he plays is affecting the way the board (and maybe the manager, I don't know since he keeps giving mix messages in that department) not to mention he is getting slower so he has to change the way he plays sooner or later. The fact is the position he plays requires him to play more defensively means he better to do or be dropped. The Athletico Madrid game will become more apparent if we can't get a double pivot that does it job properly and helps take off any opposition pressure. Lampard doing what he does in Jose's 4-3-3 is upsetting the balance.

And how can we use him like SAF uses Scholes? Because judging from past experience not making a constant starting 11 player means he will just act like a petulant brat and kick up a fuss in the dressing room and in the media. For gods sakes we should not be treating him like royalty (like some fans think we should)

I think we agree on the same thing.

I DO NOT think Lampard is the answer to a Double Pivot position! - End of Story - it's been tried + tried+ tried and does not fucking work - and makes me more angry than Ramires as RW!

Dropping him is fine - he WILL have to deal with it.

My biggest problem is RDM picking him there in the first place.

We SHOULD (and RDM needs the BALLS to do this) be using him as an 'impact' sub, further up the pitch - so he can run into the box for the last 15-20 mins - like Scholes (who scored @ weekend)

At 34 nobody should be guaranteed a starting place - why invest millions in youth if they dont get a chance.

I do not want Lampard to be remembered for these shite performances, he was too good (and can still be good) in his natural role - being well rested and not played out of position. I think the Tantrums came from AVB's treatment of him, Terry, Alex and some of the other players...

Laugh out loud only you could argue and berate a Chelsea legend like that. You did it with Drogba last season and now you're doing it with Frank, I just hope Frank smacks your theories into a black hole like Drogba did last season when he produced probably the greatest last final swan song in football history and Sam81292 went all quiet.

My gripe with Drogba last season was that when it was not perceived to be a big game (basically anytime in the Premier League because getting in the top 4 would not exactly be a medal) was that he never turned up and was becoming a big disadvantage for us (seriously watch the away game against Wigan and you will see what I mean) so while I'm grateful for his performances in the CL. Its a good thing we let him go because he would basically be wasted in the team and using him as a sub role would be difficult for both the club and the player.

My gripe with Lampard goes much further when AVB rightfully dropped him for some incredibly awful performances and Lampard could not stand the fact he was not being treated like some god and was trying to use his status as some Chelsea untouchable who should practically run the club himself to get his own way like some spoiled little shithead to get his own way. Its seems that RDM is too scarred to drop him as an automatic starter in case it happens again, when he really shouldn't be.

I see your point with Drogba but the guy was 34 years of age and it's not easy to consistently play well at that age in his position. I think with the Lampard point I made I was a bit too over emotional, Lampard is clearly not as good as what he was but I struggle to find someone to replace him in that position. Oscar could do it but I would rather have him in the 3 ahead of the double pivot.

I don't buy this idea that AVB was treating wrong and that was the excuse for Lampard to act like a prick. He was giving some awful performances and even an idiot could tell that if you are suddenly dropped after being a starter for so long means you were probably not playing well and should up your performances when you are given another chance. I'm sick of this idea that manager's have to to always talk about decisions with Lampard and Terry as though he needs some sort of final approval, he's the bloody manager! He above them on the hierarchy scale. Alas its the problem with modern day footballer and having way too much power.

Well fair enough - we disagree then - AVB is an absolute fucking cock when it comes to Man Management - you can tell he's a knob during every interview - the bloke is fucking clueless...

Sure Lamps is gonna be a bit hurt at being dropped - but it was the messages in the press from AVB, not to Frank personally, that really showed what a muppet he was.

Frank wasn't the only player to fall out with AVB - so I definitely apportion a large amount of blame onto AVB.

Let's see what happens if RDM drops him in the coming weeks - if he cries like a baby, then he should be told to STFU - but I cannot honestly see that happening.

For all the men here that says that Lampard should be dropped and the 'we'll see if he cries like a baby' should all be killed by tank , seriously , no respect for our legends, no respect for the player that played a big part winning us a CL , no respect for Frank Lampard that is our Vice Captain , no respect for his commitment to the Blues for so long , no respect for his attitude , we've won the fucking Champions League because he was fantastic , i'm a big fan of Frank honestly , and I know that he is playing in a position that is not his best position , but he is doing good , if we've won against QPR no one would talk about the 'its not working' about the double pivot , wait until the January window and the lets see where we'll be in PL and CL, Lampard is still a good player , always good in his passing ,runs and defensive duties , he just lost a bit of consistency.

I said if he cries at being dropped under RDM then he needs to man-up.

If you had bothered to read the rest of my posts you will see me defending him to the MAX!

He has to accept a smaller (but no less important) role in the team. As per Scholes + Giggs.

Hope that clarifies it...

Lol fuckoff man, what Lampard has achieved has nothing to do with how shite he is playing lately.I RESPECT FRANK LAMPARD but he should not be starting week in week out for the good of CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB.By your dumb logic let's play him everygame for the rest of his life just because we respect him and because he is legend, fuckoff man really what a shit logic.

Your right. Lamps may play too many game this season, but he has been MOTM in both England games, so I 'd given him a rest against QPR. Considering he is on of our main scoring assets, I also think we should rather use him more offensively, the problem is we have few players who could replace him in the double pivot (no idea why we always cause oureselves these troubles). Clearly he would be more effective in a CAM or even makeshift striker/false no.9 role than in DM. His main strength is his scoring and that has not so much to do with consistency or speed, Strikers simply have to convert with head and either food and he opposite to Torres has proven that he can do so consistently for Chelsea. So why not give it a try in case Sturridge and Torres are misfiring?

legendary status is holding chelsea back!!

Di Matteo will not drop lampard for some reason I'am a big fan of Oscar I've watched him for some time now he wear's the number 10 for brazil and they calls him the brains of the team. He Does not rush with the ball fabulous technique, good passing and good under pressure a very intelligent player..And he just turned 21 so please tell me why are manager in every match playing Lampard out of position he is constantly making slow runs. And for some reason roberto di matteo will not drop him or use him as a sub when he haves a bad game.!

Lampard is holding chelsea back because of his legendary status he is stoping are new young fast talented players getting any game time.!
