but weren't people saying he deserved to go somewhere else?

I get whoever is pissed at him going to United I'm sort of pissed too (I'm just not completely pissed because I'm positive Moyes doesn't know how to use a player like him any better than a neanderthal knows how to use an iPad)... but then it's because of wherever he's going. Where are all the people saying he should go somewhere because he doesn't deserve the bench?

It seems it merged into one big group pissed he was sold - regardless of where - with a few exceptions of people being mad because it was sold to United...

can this thread be indefinitely closed once it's moved to the ex-blues board? It's going to be a a field day

Let's have a service #MataWidows

Imagine the amount of new threads that would be created in tribute for him.

Can you not visit it while it's happening? I mean if that's healthier for you.

I'm for real, K. Some people are really sad, I'm positive some will or did drop a few tears, I wasn't being ironic at the first part, just at the service, which was a joke.

For you to post that Mourinho meme and then say you are not happy is pretty hypocritical!

I agree 37mi for Mata isnt a bad deal (although considering the timing of it, I cant say it is a good deal). But that doesnt mean we should celebrate it just because of the numbers...

Mata gave a LOT of smiles to your face for you to treat him like that!

EDIT: Before you post those fabricated quotes such as "no player is bigger than the club", I wasnt even a Mata "defender" (if you want to call it like that). But I do appreciate the things he has done for this club and I am hating to see him going to a club I despise and that drastically needs quality players. We could have very well waited for the summer!

How is it hypocritical? Think you're using the wrong word there, Raph.

I'm happy with the fee. You wouldn't get even close to that after the World Cup, or from another club if United weren't so desperate.

I'm actually happy Juan is leaving because a - one or two fanboys might fuck off, but more importantly b - because he is a talented footballer and he deserves the chance to stake his claim for the World Cup. He's had a fabulous two and a half years here, which I'm thankful for. But I'm not going to kick up a shitstorm or shed any tears over it. I'm not happy he's being sold to United, but that damn-well beats him going to City or Arsenal. But with FFP we're going to have to start to fund transfers by selling fringe players. And a fringe player is what Mata is at the moment, folks, sorry to say. Life goes on.

It's not ideal, but £37 million for a player who isn't featuring much is not to be sniffed at. This is a transitional period for us right now and getting this money in and a player off the wage bill who isn't playing (no matter how good he is or how much he is loved) will help us in the rebuilding process.

I'd like to add that I'm not thrilled that we're losing Mata, not am I excited at the prospect of seeing him as a Man Utd player, I can I can accept it

I swear some people here would take 60 million from City for Hazard if they came calling just because "it makes financial sense and no player is bigger than the club".

Do you think Mata would have been sold if he was a starter or played regularly?

We don't need money that badly to sell important players - the problem is Mata is not important for Mourinho, and they were dangling 40m in our face for him.

Regarding this hierarchy of club>manager>player - who's interests are really protected with not selling Mata to a rival for seasons (plural) to come? Chelsea Football Club's. Who's interest are we protecting when we do sell? Well, in all fairness, Mata's and Mourinho's. I can't see any positive from this deal unless we buy a player from the transaction money we ought to receive.

Difference being Hazard isn't a squad player. He is an important first team player.

Mata is not an important player for us anymore. People need to realise that and get over it!

Last two seasons Mata was described as irreplaceable and Mr.Chelsea... let's wait a year or two and see how that changes :)

That's the point - if we go out and buy Costa (thus helping us in a position where we need competition), then this is good business.
