Errr, we threw away the 2-0 lead against Southampton when he was on the pitch, IIRC...

But generally we always seem to struggle when he is not on the pitch. I mean against Brentford it wasn't until he came on in the second half that we were able to even string two consecutive decent passes and manage to make some sort of threat to the opposition

Ba came on and made the last pass, the other was a header so it wasn't Mata who made the goals

He's more important to us than Messi is to Barcelona, RVP is to United, probably more important to us than Silva is to Man City, even Pirlo to Juventus. It's really quite sad. No player is bigger than the club, but he really deserves to be playing with better players. By 'better' I mean players who show half the grit he's been showing for a while now. It'll be tragic if he never wins a PL title with us.

Edit: Just remembered he's a Champions League winner which RVP, Silva, Aguero etc. aren't :) This makes me happy.

Yes, we seem to get lost whenever he's not playing but last night's collapse had nothing to do with him being on the pitch or not. Two piss poor defensive moment cost us the game.

If only he had been part of a better era though, considering he wasn't exactly 'instrumental' in our now historic 2012 CL win. I wonder how greater his legacy can be if we get our act together, the club moves forward, we appoint the right manager and go on a trophy run. JT, Drogba & Lamps are fortunate in that sense..

So were the managers though.. These 3 blokes could win trophies in any team..
