Chelsea Legend 11 4,062
Fabregas can't defed for shit either, though... if he could replicate the No 8 role, he could be an ideal sub for him. Don't forget he had amazing vision with all of those assists. Mou by the sound of it doesn't like him, though. It's a shame.Fabregas isn't a world class defender by no means but he understands where he needs to be. He's also got 2.7 tackles a game, can you see Mata coming anywhere near that number? You guys only look at one aspect of the game, I grew up a disciple of Dutch football so I'm and advocate for total football. Jose clearly is too and while Cesc isn't the best defender he does get himself dirty from time to time, Mata isn't that type of player at all. killer1257 and Barbara
The Chels 2,502
Atleti have always been his fans. Expecting him to go there for 15-20-25 million, depending on who they part with(if any). Him, Griezmann, Arda, Koke, pretty nice midfield. What? Mata is about as far away from a 'Simeone player' as you will get. Atletico are all about intensity, tactical discipline and workrate. Mata would definitely not suit them. Valencia have now got a lot of money coming in and he might return there but whenever I watch them their style seems to be based on intensity too. As much as I like the guy Mata is just too limited tactically. pHaRaOn, LondonsFinest and Barbara

Tomo 21,751
I know there has been suggestions of the likes of Oscar, KDB and even Willian being moved to the pivot but I never expected Matas name to crop up.Just a step too far that Barbara

Tactically he's decent and can improve (he's an intelligent player after all) but without the necessary stamina, pace, strength etc, he's never going to really thrive in systems that Mourinho, Simeone etc deploy. Jase 43,479
Mata looks Dastardly in this pic... Obviously very upset. You do realize that second picture is from United's game at Leicester back in September..?

NikeRise 1
This thread is crazy...Put mata in Cesc's position? It's one thing if your lampard that can somewhat tackle and has at least good size and cesc, but mata doesn't have size or any ability to tackle...Mata hasn't started for United in the past 6 or so games and people think he would start on Chelsea??? No, lol, I was thinking about a false 3 man 4-3-3 pivot but now I think about it having him would allow us to play 2 DMs in the pivot and then he wouldn't need to track back so much.plus I feel bad for him with the situation he's in
Pacquiao 1,834
why on earth would anyone want Mata back??? he simply isnt good enough! bang average player who had a few good seasons in a weak Chelsea team that was built around him, if he came back he would be like Salah and warm the bench! the guy is not a Mourinho player, our players have more fight in their little fingers then Mata does in his whole body, he should go and play for someone like Spuds, Southampton or Everton a team that is willing to build their team around him. Oscar 441
Wonder who an how much he goes for this summer...IF LVG is still on board, I cannot see Mata staying with United.
Fernando 6,585
We sold him for a nice price, but if United sell him woudln't you take him if he's available for say 15 million this summer?I mean we bought Cuadrado for 22 million, I think we can buy him back and help us out here and there like Cuadrado. He'd be a squad player here as well.He needs to move to another country where he'd be the main man again and an every match starter. I always rather gamble on younger player. But third season on a role where he does the same and goes missing in the second half of the season. stroey

Willian can do a job on the 10, I'd rather we get someone genuine class like Reus to play opposite Hazard.Mata is too slow and weak to function in a Mourinho team which is why he got sold in the first place. Barbara 15,149
wouldn't be a bad shout to bring him back here tbh, Cesc and Mata together would be amazing. Plus, workrate can be taught if we just need him to track back some, because if we were to take him unfortunately I think it would be at the expense of Oscar. Though I don't know if it would be worth the price...Not gonna happen, anyway.Cesc and Mata together are a disaster waiting to happen in Premier League. We'd be outplayed in the midfield every single match. Mata issues with pressure goes beyond learning workrate, he just doesn't suit this style. Oscar literally has no interference on that. Mata would be a cuadrado a Player we use at the end of some matches depending on what we needed. It actually surprises me a lot someone can even wonder a Mata Cesc partnership seriously. We'd be overran easily Ankit, The Chels and Chelsea Legend 11
