Romelu Lukaku

Or the missed penalty against Bayern. I've always wondered if he'd stay last season if he scored that.

He looked so nervous taking that penalty, and his general performance in that game was woeful. I'm convinced once he said he wanted to go out on loan last season Mourinho didn't try to stop him.

Luke Shaw who's barely done anything and plays LB goes for £30m but a match winning striker who's scored over 30 goals in the last two seasons goes for £24m. Feels cheap.

Can't help but feel we could've got way more for him somewhere else but we probably did a Mata and let him go where he wanted to go.

Still don't forget most of the times unsettled players are sold for somewhat cut price fees. Lukaku has done a great job to unsettle himself over the past year...

That being said even Cesc was signed relatively cheap because he was unsettled at Barca and he also turned out cheaper than Shaw as we signed him for £27m.

Yep, my bad, that's correct. But even if we discount those two signings, that was not the only point I made. He and his people are chiefly responsible for the unbalanced squad we had prior to Mourinho's arrival. Saying he's done a wonderful job is an over-statement. You know who did a wonderful job? Txixi Bergenstein at Man City.

I agree the squad has been unbalanced but then again, as I said you have to take into consideration that we didn't have a solid manager to work with back then. We always had temporary, caretaker managers or managers who got sacked very quickly, so in that respect I personally admire the job Emenalo has done. You can see that now we actually have a real manager and a real blueprint to follow... The squad is finally very balanced.

Man City is incomparable because they had managerial stability with Mancini being there for almost 3 years.

i was not saying that. but read the post made by term-x. adebayor??? lukaku is already double the player adebayor ever was. i can very well see lukaku getting a transfer to city in a couple of years!!!

sturridge played a MASSIVE part in that. dude, pool's first 3 matches of the season were 1-0 wins and all sturridge goals. that alone should count for something. 20+ PL goals.

Sturridge was excellent for Liverpool last year, but you've got to be kidding yourself if you don't think Suarez was the main reason Liverpool almost won the title.

Torres and Luiz were not signed by Emenalo. They were signed in Jan 2011. Emenalo took over in June 2011. So the whole premise of your post (which mainly seems to be critiquing the signing of Torres which is fair but he wasn't signed under Emenalo to begin with) is sort of invalid. Emenalo has done a fine job considering we didn't have a solid manager to work with for most of those years. It's obviously changed now with Mourinho though, and they've together in general done very well so far in the three transfer windows in which they've been working together.

When Mourinho came back he praise the board for the work they had done. ie KDB, Lukaku, Courtois and such.

Later he was also saying how he was working well with Emanolo.

So it as you said, Emanolo who many hated at the beginning for his past started doing a good job and with Mourinho it's only gotten better.

This just show that having good and competent people as our staff is very vital.

Not just one person in Mourinho, but in other levels of structures working together as a unit.

Don't be. We have lost far better players who actually did stuff in a Chelsea shirt.

My abiding memory of Lukaku will be watching him fail to control the ball in the World Cup.

He was not the finished article but a 21yr old with real potential. Torres has done SO much damage to the blues...

main- yes. but like i said - danny played a MASSIVE part. simply cant ignore that. which just says how wrong the board were then, and this seems to be a bigger mistake!!!

Meh. I think Sturridge was a bigger mistake than Lukaku, I don't even view the Lukaku sale as a mistake to be honest because it's best for all parties involved. Romelu doesn't want to stay, Mourinho doesn't want him, Everton are in need of a striker and we get a decent fee. It's fine.

Romelu Lukaku isn't the only young striker talent out there. It's not a really big deal for me because he hasn't done anything for us and tbh, will only realise his potential at a club like Everton where he is given constant adoration by his coach and where he is the undisputed number 1 striker. He won't have that here.

Most of the great business Bergenstain did was after Mancini was sacked and before Pellegrini was hired.

Anyway, don't get me wrong, I like Emenalo a lot. I think he's a young, talented guy with an eye for spotting talent but he let his inexperience show with the indiscriminate signing of AM's and not adressing the ageing squad problem quicker (a problem I feel caused Ancelotti his job). It's not all his fault though as Chelsea is a mad-house. Also, he has an experienced manager in Mourinho to split hairs with as opposed to AVB and Di Matteo.
