steve5221 91
I do feel a bit sorry for AVB in that the players that he has at his disposal are not good enough to play the way he wants. Having said that, im my opinion he needs to show more pateince and stop being so erratic in his substitutions. Last night he had Malouda Mata Lampard Mierlies Torres and Sturridge on the pitch in the last 10 minutes chasing the game and we could have easily lost. This combined with bringing Kalou on in Valencia shows a lack of patience to me....a point away in Europe is a good result against any side..Also he has to pick a settled back 5 and stick with it, currently he only has 4 in his mind....Cech Bos Cole and JT..As for signings we can forget about the days of Ranieri and Mourinho, his hands are tied because of FFP, I really hope that this rule falls down because we aint gonna start winning things again for a while otherwise..as has been mentioned on here many times before, we are stuck with average players on very high wages and long contracts. If the report in the evening standard yesterday is true and we have offered Kalou £85k a week on his new deal then that beggars belief...The Lakuka signing could not have been his either as that guy cannot play in the AVB style.. BlueLion. 21,491
they look really plastic for me. I would get this kind of thing in a crucial match in Cl final stages, but not against Everton in a Curling Cup match, or after scoring the 4th goal against a low table side.I'm a Chelsea fan so I celebrate each and every goal, whether it's the first against Manchester United or the seventh against Aldershot Town. Kojo 4,676
He brought in 3 players with him; Romeu, Raul and Matador, and they've all impressed.Based on these i'll say very likely.* i don't consider Lukaku an AVB buy, he was always going to join Chelsea regardless of the manager. Was Mata his own buy?, well anyway if it is well done to him, i hope he gets rid of the deadwood and buys some players, in january too.So anyway, Alex didn't play, don't get it at all, because i wanted Ivanovic right back from now on... Cole is having too much games, i hope there's just that chance that we will quit the high defence line, and go back to having Alex-Terry, and fullbacks Ivanovic but doubt it because he's played too many games now. And hopefully we will see Bertrand playing left back. Can't stand our defence getting skinned, our play will be slower, but it's safer, AVB is just going to have to do it, because it's starting to get very very serious now. Heartless Beast 7
We keep swapping central defenders around, the spine of our team. During the glorious Jose years, our two centre backs were always Carvalho and Terry. They developed a strong understanding. Now it's Ivanovic, Luiz and Terry rotating heavily. Also, why Alex isn't playing is beyond me. He's our best defender imo.

didierforever 7,349
i am suprised to hear talks of an overhaul after 2 defeats n a draw.avb is rigidly hell bent on playin the "attractive brand of football" which we dont have the players for. he himself would know that such a transition comes slow and will take some time and that is what he needs but it definitely does not mean we sell of all the legends n players of this club(which i hope avb does not do). we as fans now have 2 choices: 1) to bitch about avb n his style of football;2) to get behind him and give the support he needs.i am all for the 2nd option n hope the same with every person here. magicrico 175
We have this wobble every year. Whilst I don't think it's pleasing to see the way the defence is playing (Have we kept a clean sheet), we are in that transitional period IMO. I think our midfield is used to having our 1 anchor, where as if you play rammy, meireles, lamps, they all drive forward. add that with Jose and Ash, it seems if they go forward too, while yes we are attacking, our defence is open EVERY time. Not to mention, we do not have a main striker. Thats whats killing us. Torres,Drogba,Anelka not cutting it at all. Very Poor. We have no one else to play there, unless we play Danny up top and get someone on the right. This is our problem. In Summary: Our strikers are shit. Peace. 4,352
he must stop to rotate defence, ffs.True. Once it is Bosingwa-Ivanovic-Terry ; after that it is Ivanovic-Luiz-Terry ; an other day it is Bosingwa-Alex-Luiz ; Next time it is Bosingwa-Ivanovic-Luiz...... It is hard for our defenders to create an understanding between themselves. Furthermore if they have to adapt to a whole new tactic, changing partner everytime won't help them. Blue Armour 4,448
I think if AVB needs to rotate his CB's he should do it in pairs...One pair of CB's for the weekend, the other for midweek...He should follow this at least until one of the four gets injured
termninja 5,290
Don't be negative over AVB's positive footballWhat a mad week. Sam Allardyce gets booed when West Ham are second in the Championship, people complain to the BBC when I do Michael Jackson moves in a Michael Jackson dance routine and – craziest of the lot – there are rumours that the Chelsea hierarchy aren't happy with Andre Villas-Boas' tactics. It's Catch-22 for AVB.Having been brought in with a mandate for attacking, free-flowing football he's apparently now in trouble for producing it.Rewind a couple of weeks.Juan Mata was being talked of as player of the season material, Ramires was the most improved talent in the league and some were tipping Chelsea to overhaul the Manchester cub for the title. Two defeats later and the roof is falling in.I know we work in a results-first business, but that's ridiculous.Any kid playing FIFA at home knows that the more you commit to attack, the greater the risk of you being opened up at the back. That is particularly true with Chelsea, who are trying to play a high line defensively but don't really have the personnel to do it.John Terry is still so good at so many aspects of the game but his lack of pace is worrying when you are playing far up the field in an attempt to press the opposition, in the way Barcelona do.It is doubly dangerous in a league that is now stocked with fast, clever strikers.Terry wouldn't have caught Robin van Persie to that shocking Florent Malouda back pass even if he hadn't slipped. And the likes of Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero would have been watching with interest. But Chelsea gain as much from the system as they lose.At home, they've scored only one fewer goal than leaders Manchester City. They would have scored even more were it not for Fernando Torres' red card against Swansea.A week earlier against Manchester United, Torres was looking back to his best (apart from that awful miss) and he'd already scored against the Swans before getting his marching orders for violent conduct.A three-match ban has set him back again, but I maintain the final judgement on Torres can only be made when he's had an unbroken run of 20 first team games.Yes, Villas-Boas could have gone a different way.He could have taken the path that my mate Roberto Mancini did at Manchester City, getting the defence right first and ekeing out tight wins and draws against the other big boys. But remember the stick Roberto took for that?Imagine how much flak Villas-Boas would be getting now if he was playing essentially the same brand of football that got Jose Mourinho sacked, despite winning five trophies in three years.Tight, negative football isn't what Chelsea hired AVB for. So he shouldn't be criticised for failing to deliver it.My advice to him is to adopt Sir Brucie's Strictly Come Dancing catchphrase, with a slight change I've made since the controversy over my Jacko dance.Never mind the critics - Keep On Thrusting!
