I think this is a very good point, if we look at the most successful teams in Europe right now, teams like Bayern can start Robben, Kroos, Ribery and STILL have players like shaquiri, muller, gotze on the bench. Price may be a ittle high, but willian is certainly not a misguided purchase.

Hahahaha I laughed so hard at "vigilant"
"Because he's the hero that Chelsea deserves, but not the one it needs right now...and so we'll play him...because he can take it...because he's not a hero...he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...the Dark Knight".

This is so disingenuous. Madrid didn't have infighting BECAUSE of a deep squad.
Top teams need quality depth if they want to win anything. Bayern in their band of three now have Kroos, Muller, Robben, Ribery, Gotze, Shaquiri.
They seem fairly content with life dont you think...? Oh yeah and from what I hear they're pretty good too.

I don't see why people are slagging off de Laurentiis. He's simply a good businessman. You don't sell your prize asset; and if you do, you sell it for an extortionate fee.

An old Ferrari is always a Ferrari, it was top of the line in its day when people(clubs - Chelsea) payed top dollar for it.
Even today, that Ferrari can give any car a run for its money, but it is losing its resale value after 7 years of ownership and is not getting any newer or better.
Today it gives a great ride, tomorrow it is stuttering and dayafter is unpredictable as well.
Car parts(players) and Emission standards (club mentality) have changed significantly, and those changes mean that even though this ferrari can give any car a run for its money, its time it was driven by another owner on another road.
It is time to let emotional connections go with your old ferrari, and forge new ones with a brand new Ferrari.
    I drive a civic.

If we do sell him, I think it's only right Choulo be the one to move this thread to the ex-players section of the forum.
Alternatively auction off that privilege and you'll probably have the money to run the site from now until Mikel scores his next goal. :tophat:

I think Kroos is the type of player that number 10's are moving towards now. We don't see players like Zidane or Riquelme anymore because of the requirement for players to be more tactically flexible. Michael Cox wrote an excellent article about exactly this
    http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/03/26/trequartista-engance-classic-no-10sstruggle/
Kroos is a fantastic player because he can be the second forward or "number 10" as well as being a third central midfielder. When Madrid play Ozil he is very much a forward, rather than a third midfielder. When Mourinho wanted to compete more in the midfield area in his run of El Classico's, he consistently shifted Ozil out to the right in favour of Modric or Pepe, a player that could help Madrid be competitive in the centre of the pitch.
Kroos can play both roles for Bayern. He's strong and defensively aware enough to drop deeper to act as a third midfielder and has the technical ability to play in the "10" role for Bayern. Again this explains it well
    http://www.zonalmarking.net/2012/04/17/bayern-munich-2-1-real-madrid-what-type-of-player-to-use-as-the-number-ten/
I think hes better in that role than Muller, and is possibly their key player even over Schweinsteiger/Robben/Ribery, so I don't understand the Gotze move. Seems a lot of money for depth...
