In all fairness as well, the formation wont make a huge difference. 4231 just means youve got a pure 10 and not playing with a 6 as opposed to 433 with a 6 and two 8s. Its still not going to make Willian, Hazard, Kovacic/Barkley do more offensively is it? Kante will still push up and Jorginho will still dictate the play. The players in attack will still stand still and we would still be exposed when we lose the ball becasze everyone will be higher up. 4231 basically becomes a 433 because Kante and Jorginho both dont need to be deeper to move the ball out when we have it. Was the same when when had Ramires playing in a double pivot. He just pushed up and it was effectively 433. The 10 would drop in as a more advanced CM without the ball... The issue with our play is with the ball in the final third (if your going to use David Luiz and Emerson in your back 4 you should 100% expect to concede big chances/goals imo) , its more patterns of play than the formation. We always come inside, always into overcrowded central areas. Theres no selfless movement off the ball. No overloads in wider areas. Everyone wants to dribble or take too many touches instead of 1 or 2 touch combination plays. Sarris Napoli were exceptional at one and two touch passing, the formation doesnt neccessarily matter because regardless of where Hazard, Willian, Kovacic/Barkley play they will dribble when they could pass or take too many touches... I mean Sarri said we haven't even learned the basics and hes right, in the final third we are slow because players dont look to play quickly or change it up. Napoli were hard to play against because they played at such a tempo and were unpredictable in attack, they could get at you from wide areas, come inside, they were inventive in the final third. Defensively they would be narrow and let teams try to attack them through the wings because at CB theh had 2 strong defenders in the air and a goalkeeper who was comfortable at coming for higher crosses.

German mentality. Losing is not acceptable. Hes fucking right they should be ashamed too. Bournemouth are a decent outfit but hardly the sort of team we should lose to full stop, never mind 4-0

Honestly? Last season except the first 3 months and a run of 5 games towards the end of the year he was again, very very ordinary. That season under Jose and Hiddink, injuries or whatever, when he actually played he was like a totally different player in a very bad way. When last seasons major turning point and big games came up when we were fighting to try and stay comfortable in top 4 he was poor like many (who got crucified every week regardless). Theres obviously issues with a huge chunk of the squad for inconsistentcy, not just Eden but he is a huge culprit, perhaps one of the biggest because when he plays at his best he is unplayable and it is unacceptable for the lack of effort he shows at times. Im not buying him playing as a false 9 as an excuse for when the going gets tough in terms of performancs or effort .
-
Perhaps but hes said that he will only make adjustments from 433 when the players understand his philosophy. If that is how he plans on inplementing it and how he has done throughout his career so we should let him. If he wants to change after he can. The players aren't helping him. I agree like for like subs dont help sometimes but Conte more or less did the same. Its a matter of perspective, Klopps Liverpool play 433 every week and have done for over 2 seasons now, theyve fully bought into his methods and most of the time plan A is always effective. If our attacking play was better then we could say Sarris style is working but theres no point in asking him to change his methods because that is how he operates, similarly to many other managers who often play one style, just because its not successful at the moment doesnt mean he should start from scratch. I think anybody who expected top 4 to be easy after last season with a manager who needs time to deliver his ideas to a squad who have almost exclusively played counter attacking football was odd. The players also arent doing enough.
-
Form wise when was the last time Hazard played at a high level cor weeks on end? The first 7 games of the season? The consistency doesnt exist? Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar all more consistent. That is a fact. In the last 4 seasons Eden fell completely off the map in 2 of them after being arguably the player of the year in title winning seasons. Or you going to tell me that is perfectly fucking normal? 😂 If Hazard was Willian this thread would be full of criticism every week, regardless of performances so I think there is a bit of biast in all fairness. If you are happy with Eden playing like this too fair enough 😂 I know I aint. Half arsed it for ages now except the Spurs game. Also good to see youve actually acknowledged Costa and Cescs roles because others on here would soley just give Eden all the credit for those title winning seasons.
-
How did they adapt? They still play the same styles they've always used in their careers... its just better because they were more persistent with it at the beginning. Klopp and Pep both still hardly rotate that often too. Sometimes to change the culture and style you need to be more drastic, if Sarri has to do what he has to do to get us there then so be it. Seems some people just dont want to change and would rather we were this quick fix team who changed manager every 2 years, yes theres been success but success wont always happen with this method.
-
So has Klopp and so has Pep. Lack of rotations are one of their biggest faults. Klopp ran 7 or 8 BVB players into the ground in his final 2 seasons. Same with Pep at Bayern but he blamed fitness coaches and doctors. If we had either of those 2 and this happened it would still be the same. Players need to get on with it, show a bit of effort and toughen up. Also Pep refuses to let Foden leave on loan but wants to keep him because hes a young player with huge talent... sound familiar? Pep also stuck with Bravo in goals when he first arrived despite costing them matches/playing poorly. Again. Similar. All coaches have limitations but Pep is in his 3rd season at City with a squad stockpiled with brilliant players after people said his style and his arrogance in believing it would cost him success.... Klopp has built the best Liverpool 11 in god knows how long because he has time and they bought into his methods. Even more ironic if we sacked Sarri who would we get next? The list of good managers we havent appointed who would potentially be interested gets smaller every few seasons.
-
Really? 2 bad seasons he got no criticism for and a lot of poor performances this one when we all know he can do better.. its been a long time coming. Lets not sugarcoat it. If anybody is happy with him half arsing it and playing poorly like has the last while bar the Spurs game then I would be surprised. Sarri called him out for playing how he wants, not how the manager wants him to do. The manager is top dog, not Eden. Team comes first before him too. Bet you would be the first to criticze Sarri too saying its his fault Edens playing so poorly.
-
Well if he downs tools again completely, I hope Sarri is ballsy enough to bench him and use CHO more. Edens reputation is a saving grace for him but if he is gonna half arse it and ignore the managers instructions, whats the fucking point in starting him? Its good to see people finally being vocal about this because his roles in the Mourinho disaster season "wasnt his fault" at all along with Contes second season...
-
Happened under 3 managers in 4 or 5 years. Mourinho got a huge chunk of blame for that season but the evidence is still there to indicate the players are as much to blame...
-
No way to replace Eden? Please. Hes not Messi or Cristiano. Hes a great player but yeah. Good and very good attacking players always come about. Regarding the CL, other than the game v Atletico when he played off Morata last season, has he ever been hugely convincing in the CL against top level opposition? As opposed to the form hes shown in the PL in certain bigger games? I think somebody alluded to that a few seasons ago when Neymar was stepping up for Barca when Messi was injured. Neymar in that Barca PSG second leg was one of the best individual performances I think I have seen. He was so decisive. Its quite odd we won a CL with a 35 year old Drogba playing 120 minutes and such a poor starting 11 compared to the teams weve had in recent seasons.
-
Would be embarrasing if Willian left us to go to Paris cause we've fuckd up 2 title defences and potentially could go 2 years in a row without CL football its just typical Chelsea though 😂
-
Whats the point in having a world class player who cant be arsed? No disrespect to Eden but I think he should be embarrased by his perfromances except the Spurs game over the last good while. Add that to the two disasterous seasons under Jose and Conte.... Would rather an inferior player who is interested, doesnt seem to vanish whenever shit hits the fan and least of all is willing to try and change to suit a manager. Eden right now is not interested clearly. Not showing anything which youd expect from someone who many believed was the most inform player at the world cup and in Europe at the start of the season. I really do think Real Madrid or any club will be mad to spend over 150m on him. He had 2 really bad seasons one year afyer winning the title being one of the most inform players in the league. Why would Madrid who are sitting behind Barca as it is and struggling want a player who can just turn it off as easily as that? Really struggling to see why folk want him to extent because hes just becoming infuriating more than anything. Real if they were to sign Neymar wouldnt even be interested either thats the funny thing.
-
So if Sarri was to be sacked who next? Big Sam? David Wagner? Thierry Henry? Everyone wanted Jose out, players werent to blame, same with Conte, now same with Sarri. Perhaps we should sell Hazard, Azpi, Willian and the guys who have been here that long. There is clearly an issue with this squad. Managers come and go but the players are the issue for me. Gutless bunch who have clearly lost their desire to compete for trophies.
-
I think as a young player if you make 3, 4 or 5 big mistakes/really bad performances its more difficult than if your an established player. Especially here with the history regarding youngsters too. Doesnt help inspire young players with confidence about chances, never mind second chances after bad performances.
-
Have to agree. He started well for a young guy who had limited PL gametime but after the Barca game when he made that awful pass his condidence seemed shot and he was continously poor in many other games, particularly against lower opposition such as Watford and Bournemouth. That said I think hes proved for Sarri in some games he is a reliable option but Rudiger and Luiz, who I am not the biggest fan of because he can be provide a cock up every so often, are the best pairing we have at the moment. AC needs to push his way in through good performances and not based on the fact hes 22 or 23 years old and can be a long term CB option or whatever. Also, his passing against Sheffield was encouring. He is decent with the ball but needs to not be afraid to take risks and step into MF and try what he did to assist CHO more. Luiz does this to great effect almost every game and its a big part of why Sarri likes him Id imagine so if he can continue to improve in this regard as well as continue to be solid enough defensively when he gets a chance, you never know. Like CHO, Ampadu, there is natural talent there. He can be developed. Just needs to work and make that spot his own with dominant performances if he gets a run of games like he did under Conte before his form turned. Im not sure that he is physically at the level he should be either, hes quite slight for a CB.
-
Be pretty bold to strip the longest serving player of the captaincy, even though hes hardly featured. Could go down badly in dressing room as everyone undoubtly has a huge deal of respect for Gary for what hes achieved here. Would you of expected Conte to do it to JT when he didnt play? Or strip Brana of vice captaincy when he didnt play either for months before he left? Dont see the issue, really. Cahill is deservedly club captain and will go out as club captain due to his longevity here and experience. All the talk of Sarrk making Eden captain in the summer was odd, particularly even more recently after all the comments Sarri made recently about him being an individual more than a leader too or whatever it was. Azpi is definitely going to be club captain when Cahill goes permanently and will be the same for him if he does play or doesnt.
-
Bit early to start writing off Ampadu in that role after one meh game. He has the characterisitcs to play there I think and with a bit of coaching and patience Sarri could get him up to speed for that position so he can be more than suitable to play that role in the future. After this whole CHO saga, giving youth like Ampadu more minutes is actually a good idea. Wont happen overnight but he can become a very capable back up in that role I think. Doesnt have to be a crbon copy of Jorginho, we seen he can play longer passes (bit more work and he wont misplace as many as the othee night) and is obviously comfortable getting the ball and moving it (again more minutes and coaching will get him playing one and two touch more often).
-
Thats a bit of a odd statement to make mate no offence. For me, every club tries to develop or maximize the performances of every player they have so it improves the team or the squad. If we didnt want to develop CHO there would be something horribly wrong because the talent is there and can affect games. Every player can still be improved regardless of age.
-
One of the best in his position in the PL. If we can do it, why not? I was still surprised we didnt eye him up after he left Ajax. 11m quid he cost.
-
FA cup and injuries led to that more rhan anything. As well as poor form after the first 10 to 15 games under Sarri. Seasons only halfway through too...
-
Yes just like my comment pointed out he wasnt the only one.... or the worst for that matter. Azpi and Ampadu probably gave the ball away a lot more.
-
So did Callum, Barkley, Kovacic, Ampadu, Alonso, Azpi.. was a commom theme tonight at times. Was an excellent pen, cool as you like. Never looked like missing.
-
So is he still fat and slow? Can fairly shift despite not being really quick and pace has never been something hes credited with either. Goals will come, movement was good, link up was neat and tidy.
-
Thought Willian did well tonight. 2 great goals. Edged MOTM for me ahead of Kova (probs a unpopular opinion haha), lower opposition fair enough bur still. Willian didnt just stand still either he drifted around the final third a lot. Good movement from some players tonight eventually. We gave the ball a way a lot at times but was through trying to play forward so fair enoigh sometimes this happens.
