Would have prefered to keep him around as back up rather than turnbull or Hilario to be honest. We don't seem able of having young players as squad players giving them the chance to fight for a starting spot.... However Atletico will be a good loan for him. We have some good young keepers around on loan Taylor, Delac, Walker and Blackman going away with the first team on tour.....

I presume there is a minimum of appearances in the contract otherwise we wouldn't have loaned him. But don't Atletico trust Asenjo at all?

The thing with kids is you can never be sure, about the sustained level of performances. That is why they had both of them(Asenjo and De Gea) for 2009-10. Only when De Gea emerged as the sure shot replacement for Roberto (Franco in the long term), did they loan out Asenjo. They did the same two GK module with Franco and Coupet.

14.06 Lovely stuff regarding the Courtois loan deal. Atletico have confirmed the agreement, yet, remember, Chelsea have not even as yet officially confirmed the capture of Courtois on a permanent deal. Just lovely.

14.04 DONE DEAL: Goalkeeper Thibaud Courtois has joined Atletico Madrid on loan from Chelsea for the forthcoming season.

Hopefully he can suceed de Gea and be the no1 there.
