It's all hypothetical where we would be without Lukaku but you would be fooling yourself if you think our system "didn't work" when we had Havertz/Werner/CHO/Mount/Pulisic/Ziyech as the interchangeable front three. I'd confidentially wager that we'd at least look like a functioning side with a plan vs taking two massive steps backwards buying Lukaku and not having a fucking clue with what we want in our attack for the past 5-6 months. Lukaku aside, put any of the others in Klopp's side and I'd be willing to wager that they would be thriving over there compared to here. And not to mention, at least two of those names were linked with Liverpool before we signed them.
Jase 43,479
Doesn't seem like much has changed in terms of the numbers for Wolves, despite replacing Nuno with Bruno Lage. Don't score a lot, don't concede a lot and somehow sitting in the top 10.

Well, we won CL as a counter attacking team. If teams just park the bus against us we were/are clueless. In CL knockout stage campaign we scored 9 goals in 7 games. Nothing special? And on the road to final we faced 3 mediocre teams. Of these 9 goals Jorginho for Mount and Werner goal against Real after great Kante/Havertz play are 2 only positioning goals after good attacking play. Against Atletico Giroud wonder goal after not really promising cross by Alonso and at home 2 counter attacks with all the space in the world. Porto 2nd goal was big mistake in their defense (Chilwell goal). Against Madrid Rudiger long ball for Pulisic and 2nd goal at home was just like against Atletico. They went all in attack and we had all the space in the world when it was already game over. Final was also counter attack. Look, I am not trying to downplay this success. It was amazing, I really liked us in most games. But we won CL because of defense. Just 2 goals conceded in knockout stage. Real after corner and Porto last minute goal without importance. It was obvious we cannot be successful in the long run like that. What about PL? People keep ignoring this. Last season with TT in 19 games we scored 25 goals. This season after 19 we had 42. So 17 more. But our defense dropped and we cannot survive with 1:0 wins. Going for a striker was most reasonable and logical thing to do in the summer because it really looked it was a missing piece but Lukaku was such a wrong signing and mistake was made. That same attack you are praising failed to score in the last 3 PL games. Chilwell, Jorginho (pen) and Rudiger (corner) are our only 3 goals in the last 3 PL games last season when we needed to secure top4. Thanks Bale. And the same happened in FA Cup final. In 17 of 30 games under Tuchel last season we scored 0 or 1 goal. And in many games where we scored 2 like against SU, LC, Everton we scored one pen. Already mentioned games against two Madrid sides where 2nd goals at home came after they went for all or nothing. SU in Cup o.g. and last minute goal. What is left? So basically only left some shit sides like Newcastle, Fulham, CP, Burnley where we scored 2. Only game where we scored more than 2 was Palace 1:4. Great game for Puli and Havertz that was. So no, we really should not praise our attack under TT last season. Even most of the Werner missed sitters came in first half of the season under Lampard. You can be extremely confident that no opponent in world football is likely to stop you from scoring. I kind of felt like that early this season when we had RJ and Chilly flying, but now we can’t even be confident that we can score 1 goal. We have no idea whether we’ll get lucky and Havertz/Werner/CHO/Pulisic/Lukaku will have their once a month great game. Yep!!! And even with the gap between them and City with the players they have and that City do have off days...still there is a hope because they do mostly just win win win. It really is genuinely infuriating discussing football with you when you constantly prefer stats over the basic eye test. To think our football last season wasn't free flowing, dynamic, and something to build upon is something I will wholeheartedly disagree. Don't believe you. I'm reliable informed you need world class service in every position behind you to do the basics if you're a striker.
