Azul 1,615
You're forgetting one major thing here. Mourinho is an experienced manager. Lampard is a rookie. Expect way more rookie and naive mistakes from Frank than Mourinho. But yes, Spuds winning the PL and us nowhere near challenging them is a sackable offense. Because the pain we would have to go through will be unbearable and next season I don't want us to be fluffing about anymore.I know he is a rookie but since when did we accept this at Chelsea? We're still a big club, we're not Liverpool who've finished 8th for the past two decades, that's what people have to understand. When you spend so much in the transfer market you can atleast expect us to finish above Spurs ffs.
Tomo 21,751
Just now, Azul said: Arsenal have a worse squad than Spurs so that would be even worse. I'm talking about a team in Spurs that finished 6th last season, haven't spent near the amount of money we spent and are the possible better team than us. How's that acceptable? Come with factual arguments instead of using the Mourinho card. If Spurs finish above us then Lampard has to be questioned and sacked. I don't see how there is any discussion about it. So if we finished with 90 points and Spurs got 91 then Lampard should he sacked?

Azul 1,615
So if we finished with 90 points and Spurs got 91 then Lampard should he sacked? That's near to impossible and it's not going to happen. Instead of using fiction use a logical estimation of how many points Spurs and Chelsea are going to get. Assuming we get 75-80 points and Spurs do as well but finish above us then yes Lampard should get sacked.
Azul 1,615
1. Spurs already had the core of the team built by Pochettino. 2. Spurs' team overall are arguably slightly more experienced. 3. Kane and Son are in their prime. 4. Of the first team players, only Reguilon was bought from abroad. Others were bought from the Premier League, meaning less time needed for adapting etc. 5. Mourinho is also the more experienced manager. It's very easy to say all of this after the season has started. Where did you expect us to finish compared to Spurs before the season started?I can guarantee that you did not predict that Spurs will finish above Chelsea this season. Now if you believed all of this how come you didn't believe so before the season started?
MoroccanBlue 5,382
Finishing Top 4 was the bare minimum. Forget Spurs. Lampard's season will be based on that and whether or not we see actual progression.
Vesper 30,184
can we stop talking about sacking Lampard ffs we just went on an almost 3 month unbeaten run and we have KEY players injured, a lot of them

I didn't know what to expect from us before the season started because we had no pre-season, had new players coming in etc but at the bare minimum, I expect a Top 4 finish. That is a must, even now. Moreover, things can change and expectations can also change. I mean, who expected this season to be so bonkers? Who expected us to be sitting close to the top after 11-12 games? Who expected Spurs to even be up there? Who expected City to be languishing close to mid-table?

Okay then using the exact same metric with no projections on points total if we have a shocking season but still finish above City then we can't sack Lampard because we finished above a team funded by a country. I'll be the first to call for a change if I believe there's not enough progress but I'll be basing it on our own performances not what other teams do. Azul 1,615
Finishing Top 4 was the bare minimum. Forget Spurs. Lampard's season will be based on that and whether or not we see actual progression. Closing the gap on Liverpool and the other title contenders was the objective this season. Top four was our objective last season and Lampard has passed the test. Now he has to challenge for the title, especially when the circumstances have changed dramatically. Liverpools whole squad is injured, City is in shambles and we have to take the opportunity this season. If Spurs do and actually win or finish above us, then the progression is not enough. Do people really think we'll easily win the league next year? VVD, Gomez and even more players will be fit for Liverpool. They might even add more WC players to their squad. City will probably invest more than 200m and sign the likes of Haaland, Messi etc. I have no belief that a team who can't finish above Spurs this season can all of sudden challenge against a fully fit Liverpool team and a transformed Man City team. I expected us to finish close the top, because we invested enormous amount of money and we finished fourth last year. Seeing as Lampard had more time to fine tune his tactics and also added so much quality to his side, it's only normal for us to do much better.Lampard can still turn things around, all I'm talking about is what'll happen at the end of the season. A big reason we finished 30 points behind was because of the naivety in not only the squad, but the manager. To suggest we can make up those 30 points in the space of a season, one that's congested as this and no preseason, is unrealistic. We saw last night the same naivety we saw all last season. It is still there and can't go away over night. You are asking quite a lot if you expect a title challenge. Lampard's task was to comfortably finish in the Top 4. He doesn't do that, we won't challenge next season and I would actually lose my faith in him to carry us forward. Tomo

I think we'll get 75-85 points and thats me being generous, if Spurs get the same and finish above us then you have to question your manager rookie or not. In this hectic season, it's very easy to understand that no one except for Liverpool(who've done it before) can get 90+ points.
