Said it before and I'll say it again. Will be so annoying for Arse to finish above us when we're both in rebuilding years.

They have more average players than we do.

2 great strikers can cover up a lot

that said they have a shit back 4

hopefully those 4 away games fuck them up

Emery is a really good coach

3 straight EL trophies

10 major trophies between 2013 and 2017

With Arsenal's easiest schedule and them going out of Europe in a couple of days I fancy them to finish top4.

If they win by same score they just did, 2 nil

they go through v Rennes on away goals

and its at home, so far from over

Rennes is miles below Manure, they only have one great player, (one of top LW targets) Ismaïla Sarr, who did score v Arse, and some pretty decent others. Sarr is the only one who remotely make Chels roster

I think Arse goes out, but its in no way a sure thing

One of my favorite stat in football this days is expected goals. It give you a very good sense of who is creating more and better chances. It is not perfect but it is pretty good.

The interesting part is Solkjaer united expected goals/point is actually pretty poor, and it enrage most of united fans. There is even a post by ESPN writer that said SAF won the league in his last season by far surpassing their expected goal is a prove that expected goals is a fraud. I actually think it is the other way around. For anyone who watched united that year know, that united can play crap the whole game and RVP can bail them out. Having WC striker that is in form can solve tons of problem. It is the same early in Moyes tenure,i watched the same thing but of course it can't continue.

Shits!!! No Arsenal Fan TV tonight!!!

Unbearable when they win. That DT giving United pelters whist stood on his large perch as if Arsenal are an example of success and consistency.

CIES Football Observatory Monthly Report

n°43 - March 2019

Mapping the origin of English Premier League players (2009-2019)

http://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/mr/mr43/en/

'

1. Introduction

This Monthly Report focuses on the top English football division: the Premier League. It analyses the evolution of the origin of players fielded over the past ten years. It shows that the percentage of players having grown up in England, the “nationals”, has progressively fallen to reach a new negative record level over the current season. The proportion of goals scored by Englishmen shows a similar trend.

Given the Brexit context, a possible limit on the scope of international recruitment may oblige the majority of Premier League teams to modify their transfer strategies. The rise of a new generation of very promising English players suggests however, on strictly sporting terms, that such a change may not negatively affect the competitiveness of Premier League teams. It could even strengthen the national team.

2. Nationals

Between 2009/10 and 2011/12, players having grown up in England have always accounted for at least 40% of minutes played in the Premier League. Over the seven last seasons studied, this threshold was only breached in 2014/15. Up until the 15th February 2019 of the current season, the percentage of playing time of nationals was 35.2%. This is the lowest value ever recorded during the period covered by the Report.

fig01.svg?crc=181732311

In parallel to the drop in playing time, the percentage of goals scored by Englishmen has decreased. In this case also, the lowest value was observed during the current season. Over the whole of the period analysed, the percentage of goals scored was always lower than that for minutes played. This result reflects the over-representation of national players in defensive positions.

3. Other UK players

In ten years, the Premier League playing time of footballers having grown up in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales has fallen by over half. During the current season, the amount of minutes played by nationals from these countries reached a lowest level of 3.0%. A strong declining trend was also observed at the level of goals scored: from 4.7% in 2009/10 to 3.2% up until the 15th February of the current season.

Figure 2: % of minutes and goals for non-English UK players in the EPL (2009-2019)

fig02.svg?crc=283767422

During the decade analysed, the percentage of minutes has fallen for all of the three non-English UK nations. Players having grown up in Northern Ireland and Wales have almost disappeared from the Premier League. The Scottish remain present although less so than in the past. Similar to the UK players, the percentage of minutes played by footballers having grown up in Ireland has fallen sharply: from 4.6% in 2009/10 to 1.5% during the current season.

Easiest? They go away to Leicester, wolves, Everton and Watford. Won't be surprised if they get like 4 points out of these games.

We go away to United, Leicester, Everton and Liverpool. Won't be surprised if we get like zero points out of these games.

Not liking Southgate's Euro 2020 selections

England squad

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke City), Tom Heaton (Burnley), Jordan Pickford (Everton)

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ben Chilwell (Leicester City), Michael Keane (Everton), Harry Maguire (Leicester City), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), James Tarkowski (Burnley), Kieran Trippier (Tottenham Hotspur), Kyle Walker (Manchester City)

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Chelsea), Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea), Declan Rice (West Ham)

Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Callum Wilson (Bournemouth)

Tom Heaton over Angus Gunn???. Gunn has been, arguably, the best English keeper in the league in the EPL since he was finally made the starter. Heaton has been shit mostly in the games I have seen.

At CB, Gomez was left out due to injury, so that is understandable.

LB he picked the best we have

BUT RB...Trippier over Aaron Wan-Bissaka?????? Come the fuck on. Trippier has had a poor season overall. STUPID call to leave AWB off, as he is a perfect player when we are going against high scoring speed merchant teams.

now for Midfield

Delph, Henderson (I suppose Declan Rice (who does deserve the pick), Henderson, and Dier are the only DMF's we have who are remotely oki but do we really need all 3? Who knows.), and (here comes the flames) RLC (mostly due to his seemingly never-ending injuries atm) and Barkely. but NO James Ward-Prowse (or even James Maddison)  JWP has had a better year than any of those save Rice, IMHO. Delph in there is just shocking!

The forwards are fine, in terms of picks,

England is REALLY weak in terms of winger depth, as after Sterling and Sancho (imagine if he had not exploded onto the scene), we only have Lingard (not on the team) and then the other two teenagers (not on the team), CHO and Reiss Nelson (who just turned 19 several months ago).

Would not "easiest" be compared to Spurs and United too?

Also, wanna bet that we get more points from those away games than arsenal do from theirs?

Fraser and Wilson can enter the record books

By Alistair Tweedale

Graphic showing best assist-to-goalscorer combinations in Premier League history

When you think of great strike partnerships of the Premier League era, you think Cole and Yorke, Shearer and Sutton, Heskey and Owen, Phillips and Quinn. These are duos from a time when playing two up front was more common than it is these days, and who would combine time and again to devastating effect.

More recently, the most effective attacking combinations have tended to be an attacking, creative midfielder along with a lone striker, where the service tends to flow in one direction. Think Ozil and Giroud, Alli and Kane, Fabregas and Costa, Silva and Aguero.

This season, the south coast has thrown up an interesting new addition to the list.

Unrelenting overachievers Bournemouth are challenging for a top-half, top-flight finish for only the second time in their history and, with a strong end to the season, may even go one better than their ninth-placed finish in 2016/17.

They sit 12th, two points off ninth, in spite of a woeful defensive record - the fourth-worst in the entire top flight - and thanks to the quantity of goals they score. Their killer combination of Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson has played a significant role in that.

After Fraser and Wilson both scored goals set up by the other in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield last week, the duo have now combined for nine goals this season. That is two more than any other pair in 2018/19, with Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling in second place, and not far off the most effective partnerships ever seen in a single Premier League campaign.

Only five partnerships have combined to produce 10 goals in a Premier League season, two of which came before the league was reduced to 38 games in 1995, while nobody has done so since Dennis Bergkamp and Nicolas Anelka in 1998/99. Fraser and Wilson are one goal off double figures with eight games to play.

Fraser is second only to Eden Hazard for Premier League assists this season, with 10, but what is so impressive about his relationship with Wilson - considering Fraser plays out wide on the left - is that the assists flow both ways. Fraser has set up goals for Wilson on five occasions, while four assists have gone in the opposite direction.

These probably aren’t two players that we would normally consider among the greatest to grace the Premier League, but their stats this season place them among an elite group. Newcastle may have to make specific plans to stop them at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
