He should have quit and told Crapello to shove the armband up his arse.

Why was he dropped again?

Because he visited the ex girlfriend of a team mate.

Not the reported shagged a wife of a team mate, maybe Crapello shouldn't have been so hasty.

I hope this happens, it'd be a straight up F*CK YOU to all the media that were calling for his head.

It must be a necessity for a journalist to be an absolute shitebag. I'm just waiting on a story claiming Ashley Cole was responsible for the tsunami in Japan

They couldn't wait to get their pot shots in at JT and I can almost guarentee he'll be written about as being the Lion to get the roar back into England. Personally i couldn't give a toss about England, as long as he does the business for us thats all I care about.

Talking from an unbias point of view, Lampard is the only man who actually deserves to be captain. Rio's had his missed drugs test ban, Gerrard's punched more people than he's scored goals, Ashley Cole's shot a man and Terry slept with a team-mate's ex.

Lampard has a clean history. Should be given the chance to lead. Not doubting Terry though, he's a natural leader amongst players, but that doesn't mean Lampard isn't.

JT didn't sleep with Bridge's ex. Even if he did it was still an ex.

Lamps was involved in the Sept 11th piss up and has made a porno movie. So he can't be captain.

I think Crapello should try and convince the one and only true leader Super Gary Neville out of retirement.

I know England can be all puritanical and stuff but I've always held the opinion that off-pitch incidents should have nothing to do with the armband. Then again I also don't buy the footballers & celebrities should act like role models bs either.

"I was really upset about what happened in Denmark, when I saw the players saying 'who is the captain?'," he said.

"After one year of punishment, it was not the best moment for John Terry to see this. For that reason I need to make a decision - and it will be a permanent decision, not just one game."

"First of all I want to know what happened with Rio's back and when he will be fit because he is a really important player for us," said Capello.

"After that I will explain to him what really happened and what I am going to do in the next week, if I will decide on a new captain or about John Terry or something else.

"Why will it be a difficult conversation? It is not because he is not a good captain. I will explain what happened in Denmark and what I think. I would understand if he is not happy. But I am the manager. I have to take decisions."

England's most consistent player in the last 2 years. Has to be Terry!

Whether you like it or not, there is only one England captain, and his name is John Terry.

To me, those people championing current England skipper Rio Ferdinand are nothing but first-class hypocrites.

The Telegraph’s Henry Winter, who I firmly believe is one of the country’s best writers, says that reappointing John Terry as England captain would both undermine Fabio Capello’s leadership as well as be of great insult to current incumbent Ferdinand, saying that allegations into Terry’s private life are sinful.

Who the hell is he to judge him? Is he so saintly, so sanctimonious he has the audacity to criticise another human being? The words ‘self-righteous zealot’ spring to mind. Another one that crops up is ‘muppet’ – maybe he’s just forgot that Ferdinand, Gerrard, Rooney et al are hardly role model material either.

Winter is not the only writer who uses John Terry’s past against him.

But let’s be frank here – the sun hardly shines out of Ferdinand’s arse. Granted Terry did the wrong thing and shagged his best mate’s ex, but let’s not forget that Rio has his faults as well.

In 2003, the Manchester United star failed a mandatory drugs test. The FA imposed an eight month ban from January 2004 at club and international level and a £50,000 fine, meaning he would miss the rest of the league season and some of the next along with the summer European Championships.

Add in the fact that Saint Steven Gerrard bottles DJs in bars and subsequently becomes embroiled in six-month-long court cases, and that MBE status looks a little ironic.

Ferdinand’s absence opened the door for Terry’s international coming-of-age. A player who had enjoyed a rock-solid 2003/04 campaign had blossomed into a world-renown star, and since that tournament, JT has been England’s defensive lynchpin.

Even in the wake of allegations into the player’s private life, Terry came through and ultimately led Chelsea to their seventh and eighth major trophies in six seasons – more than any other English captain, or any captain of any nationality for that matter, in the same period of time.

Don’t get me wrong – Rio is a brilliant defender. Inconsistent at times but nonetheless an excellent reader of the game, I think England are blessed with such wonderful defenders – Terry, Cole and Ferdinand head a list boasting plenty of talent.

But through no fault of his own, Ferdinand has only actually captained England on four occasions since being appointed skipper in February.

His persistent injury problems have meant more often than not, the armband has been passed down to Steven Gerrard. Capello then ensured that the piss was taken out of Terry against Denmark, to much media enjoyment.

Terry was forced to look on as good friend and Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard led the side out; a proud moment for the Blues number 8. Terry will surely have no issue with a man who has played more than 80 games for his country deservedly wearing the armband on a one-off.

Yet seeing Ashley Cole and then Gareth Barry wearing the armband after Lampard was substituted off will have hurt Terry.

Maybe he deserved his punishment, but there can be no doubts that John had learned his lesson by then. Capello was just making an example of him. JT – Chelsea’s captain, leader and legend – is a sincere man who wears his heart on his sleeve. That is not something that can be said of many who pull on the England jersey.

The World Cup was testament to Terry’s commitment. That attempted block against Slovenia that looked like a remake of a scene from Superman Returns could not have been more poignant. The man who represented England’s heart and soul was back with a point to prove.

Terry has been, by some distance, the best defender in the Premier League this season – or certainly the most consistently reliable, at least. Not only that, but he remains England’s best leader.

Don’t even try to lecture me that Steven Gerrard is as good a captain. The man is capable of inspirational feats, but at other times he doesn’t even seem remotely arsed. Ferdinand’s skills as a defender are equal to, if not better than Terry’s, but his leadership qualities pale in comparison.

Capello has proved his point with the England captaincy. It’s about time the media stop being so fickle. It’s about time the populace stopped being so bitter; so jealous of Chelsea’s success under their talismanic number 26.

Again I point out, there is only one England captain, and his name is John Terry.

There are three decisions Capello can make. The most likely call is he reinstates Terry as captain on a permanent basis. Alternatively he may appoint him as a vice-captain and let him skipper the side in the absence of Ferdinand and Gerrard. Thirdly, he can continue to take the piss and probably name some out-of-form prostitute-banging thug like Rooney captain.

Rooney’s consistency has been non-existent this season, and Sir Alex Ferguson cites those allegations of his apparent infidelity have affected his confidence. Terry just got up and got on with it. In other words, Wayne, ‘man up.’

And maybe that’s what Fabio needs to do. Get a grip, get a permanent captain in place, and maybe England might have a chance of doing well in a tournament for once.

And for a final time, I repeat: whether you like it or not, there is only one England captain, and his name is John Terry.

Capello is finally growing some balls if he did it this time last year England might have had a better world cup campaign.

The irony is he drops Terry over a newspaper rumour that both parties denied and the tabloids later apologizes for yet he can appoint Rio "i failed a drugs test" Ferdinand and Steven "i hit DJ's" Gerrard, those 2 broke the law JT didnt yet those 2 are 1st and 2nd choice, what a joke!!!!!

As far as im concerned Capello was weak and bowed down to the anti Chelsea, England "fans" (and i use that term loosely and with extreme hestitation) infact ill be estatic iff all the Chelsea players retired from England now its a joke there, i support England at every other sport but it is so hard to support them at football when you have twats of "fans" supporting them. In all honesty if McEachran choses Scotland over England i will be estatic.

Ahahahahaha Rio's crying over it..

Rio Ferdinand is "very upset" over plans to reinstate John Terry as England captain, a source close to the player has told BBC Sport.

The source claimed England boss Fabio Capello has been persuaded to re-think his stance by "certain London-based media" close to centre-half Terry.

Franco Baldini, Capello's number two, has already spoken to current England vice-captain Steven Gerrard about the situation.

The Liverpool midfielder, who is currently sidelined with a hernia injury, is said to be comfortable with Terry's likely reinstatement.

At least Gerrard knows who the real captain is ;)
