Not at all. Didnt Aguero have a buyout clause of 62m two years ago? Doesn't mean we have to pay that. The club is trying to negotiate a transfer fee based on player potential like they do with any other player. Chelsea is taking the right approach here. We are asking them to negotiate with us.

We dont HAVE to pay the buy out clause but we cant prance up to another club who have claimed several times they dont want to sell (be that a ploy or not) and tell them to lower their asking price when, in fact, there isnt one to be lowered! This. Neymar doesnt have an asking price, because Santos are not selling the player, and doesn't want to do so. He has a buy out clause, and in general buy out clauses are too high to avoid another club hiring your own player.

Santos' president said some time ago: "I don't believe any club will pay that much for him."

It's not like they're holding him to ransom. They have no need to sell, they are competing for the Copa Liberadores & World Club Championship. Competitions Neymar too wants to win, so they're in the right to demand the ultimate maximum.
