Drogba produced 55 total goals in only 5500 minutes all comps his first 2 seasons, whilst playing on lockdown hyper defensive beast teams

and we bossed the league in both seasons

plus we may well have won the CL in 2005 if not for that ultra dodgy no call (100% stone cold pen with VAR today) on Sami Hyypiä in the semi versus the bin-dippers when he leveled Kezman in the box and NO CALL, towards the end of the game

Drogba contributed so much to Chelsea in those two seasons, but in those years his touch was uncertain and he could be clumsy. I believed sacrificed a lot of his game by running himself into the ground and physically overcoming rival centre backs.

This was his main contribution, teams daren't play deep against him because he'd bludgeon their defence, but they didn't want to push their back line too far forward or the pace of Robben and Duff would get them.

For some reason, I seem to remember  the match where is single handily destroyed Liverpool at Anfield, and walked right through their defence to become the monster that we love him to be.

I hope you are right..... my aforementioned 10 year old asked me

"who is Chelsea's number 9?"

With a very deep sigh i replied...... "LAKAKA"......... he laughed as he had seen the memes on the interwebs..... i don't find it that funny.

I long for a return of a striker with the confidence, drive and swagger of someone like Drogba (who was raw also before he became "Drogba Legend").

Early days but Jackson shows promise. 🙂

Funny thing is I got also a 10y old here, laughing with Lukaku is a global thing it appears lol.

You are absolutely right about a new Droba-like. There was a day I was thinking Lukaku could be the guy. Look how that turned out, he fooled me big time 😬

IMO 2006-2007 Drogba (which is probably his prime version) is the epitome of a CF.

Could create, could score out of nowhere.

That's the thing about Drogba. He would bring other attackers into the game, either by occupying opposition defenders or setting up play himself.

Remember that cross he gave from the wing for Ballack to head in against United? Typical of the man.

I see a few of those attributes in Jackson too.

This.

I disagree with your points about Jackson - I think he is fantastic, and his performance since preseason, including today, has made me a lot more optimistic about this season (with hopefully players returning from injury sooner )

But that doesn't mean I should attack you or anyone else for having a different opinion.

At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite., this forum has become more toxic, especially after that shite we saw last season.

Hope Poch and team can continue with a lot more wins and improve the mood of Chelsea fans everywhere.

Yup and the funny part is that we don't disagree as much as we think we do. 😆 If you go over the Jackson thread, you will see that I very much like the player.

He did a few things in the first half that I wasn't a big fan of, and commented on them; these are in-game situations that happen for a number of reasons esp new team players getting to know their teammates. The 2 times he miscontrolled the football in the first half was factual, but also not a big deal.. it happens to the best of us.

Interestingly, some of the things I did not like him doing in the first were gone in the second; no longer did he drop so deep to pick up the football; Jackson stayed closer to the opposition goal, and scored, which I thought was very important for him--a nice striker's goal at that. I think we saw a manager's hand for the first time in a long while settle a win for us at half time. We can complain about a selection here and there, but the fact is the second half was pretty dominant.

Of course, all with a grain of salt because the opposition was OMG bad. There were actual hilarious moments when they were (trying to) attack esp on their right side of attack.

Yeah we hope for the best for sure. I personally don't believe we will be competitive this season, for a number of reasons I've already stated, but I do hope we become competitive enough so that there is continuity for next season.
