8. Enzo Fernandez

I was horrified to hear of "racist chants" from Enzo, but then I watched the video.

Will someone please explain to me how this is "racist" rather than just a dis on France's f**ked up colonial history? (same with the UK, Netherlands etc.). Do people not know how Europeans behaved in the 18th, 19th and 20th century? Look up fucking Leopold II. Or a bit closer to today, the Falkland wars. Why Argentinians look at the brits as "pirates".

Most of Frances players have African roots, that is just a fact. What exactly is wrong with having roots in the former French colonies of Algeria/Cameroon/Morocco/Tunisia/Benin/Burkina Faso (the list goes on and on and on...)? France should truly be shamed for their history in Africa, as should the rest of colonial Europe.

But please, explain to me why it's "racist" like I'm a 5 year old. Because as it stands, I think it's the complete opposite.

Can't believe the situation the club has got into because of this. We identified him, went all in on him and got him as the midfield lynchpin for years.

He won't be sold. Buyers will wait for this to blow over. A lot of people are rightly pissed at him. This will harm the squad if the club doesn't act strongly against Enzo on this. Can expect tension with Nkunku, Fofana and Disasi.

Didn't Arsenal have a player with rape allegations and nothing happened. Imagine getting rid of Enzo for this when other acts are way worse and nothing happens.

Total difference. Partey has not been charged and yes, while there is a huge section of Arsenal fans who don't want him playing due to the allegations, he has not been charged/convicted of any crime. If he now was charged, Arsenal would terminate his contract with immediate affect. Enzo stupidly, has streamed this himself, which there is no hiding from.

Just because you singing to a dumb song doesn't mean you believe what you sing. Its of course stupid from him and even streaming it himself but he clearly didn't mean what he said, also whole bus was singing to it even if they don't all show up in video.

Anything outside apologizing to his teammates and taking a fine is too much.

Do you know him personally? How can you judge. I am sure there is a lot of racism that goes on in Argentina. How can you judge. Yes, it is good to see he has apologised and I hope he does go deeper than this to amend his stupid actions, but it seems you are downplaying what has happened and don't see the seriousness of it. Not just to black people, but also transgenders as well.

Absolutely not surprised unfortunately. There is a lot of racism still in parts of the Argentine society, expat communities (but also towards Argentinians in some European countries esp Spain ) . This racism is maybe not as blatant anymore but it has been somewhat normalized. Already after the World Cup win, Argentinian players have presented themselves quite uncultured and careless about controversial political topics that have absolutely nothing to do with football, the WC or any of the other teams they played against. Remember them singing some brain dead stuff about  attacking the Falkland island again ? Apparently they have now taken it a step further. The baffling part is that they do this in total ignorance of the cameras around them and with no relevant context. (Not that there is any possible justification but still so random)
This can only mean they see the racism as something totally fine and also that they think it’s fine to just go around stirring shit up and randomly insulting noninvolved  people. So, not just uneducated, racist and insensitive but also straight up immature, uncouth, dumb and careless.
Obv they will all come back crawling on their knees begging for forgiveness and probably avoid making racist remarks on camera in the future. Still, what does this say about their characters as players and humans? Not only did their education leave out the societal achievements of the last 200 years but also it did not teach them basic manners and common sense.

all Latin American nations, Brasil included, are racist AF against black people

horrific, open, systemic racism

Mexico and the Central American nations included

and Spain and Portugal as well

it is hundreds of years ingrained in their cultures

hell, even in Bim (and Barbados is 90 per cent black or mixed) they have 'bag' or 'parchment' bashments (parties)

if you are darker than a shopping bag, you are not getting in

they have a saying: 'If sumpin dun go wrong, the dark one is likely guilty'

Looks like Jackson showing maturity unlike Wesley who couldn't even have a bit of patience and wait for Enzo to apologize and have Chelsea deal with it internally.

Mate Fofana did nothing wrong.

There is no rift without Enzo. Jesus dude. You’re so deluded.

He clearly made the situation worse for the club, could've at least stay put and let the club deal with it instead of making that post on Instagram and drawing more attention to the club. I don't see Alvarez or Martinez teammates saying anything about it.

Chelsea say they have “instigated an internal disciplinary procedure” against Enzo Fernández over his involvement in chants that included racist and homophobic slurs about members of the France team.

This will blow over. Maresca will sort them all out in pre season

They've both done the right thing.

Fofana has rightly called somebody out on a stupid, insensitive, discriminatory action, teammate or not and the social media unfollowing, etc are a stand to show that this is wrong and shouldn't be brushed under the carpet.

Jackson is offering the olive branch probably knowing his year with Enzo that he isn't a racist person and he's made a mistake.

It might sound stupid right now, but something like this in the longer run might actually help this squad develop a stronger bond moving forward, encourage characters to assume leadership in that dressing room, etc.

We are insane if we sell Enzo over this

fine him, sure

but have him meet with the players and work it out

What if they can’t work it out?

Would imagine the players who were actually fit and trained/played with Enzo all year will give him the benefit of the doubt and get over it quickly. Harder to see the group that have barely met him (Fofana, Nkunku etc) letting it go, possibly ever. At best we can hope they can manage to play and train as professionals but the togetherness you want in a squad will likely never be there.

During the Euro final I was talking to my friends about how crazy football transfer fees are, when you think that all it takes is 5s of a player saying something racist and your £100m is gone forever. And you can't control what footballers say or really know what their beliefs are ahead of time. I'd assume Enzo will get fined for this but it is hard to see what the path back for him is. It probably exists but it wont be easy at all.
