Imo Brexit is very unlikely to affect transfers because the UK government appears to want to move to a points based immigration policy. This esstentially means poor immigrants get locked out (unless they are in industries with dire needs) and rich immigrants get in and it is easy £££££ for the government. No way, do the UK make it difficult for a PL player to come and play here as they make too much money off of them.

Argue all you want about Brexit and immigration but rest assured, the UK will allow in as many multi-millionaires that pay tax as they can get.

Fiscally, it does not matter where a taxpayer was born, just that he or she pays in to the revenue. All established Premier League players are multi millionaires and if a club is unable to fill its squad with overseas footballers it will fill it with domestic ones instead. They will still be paid and they will still be required to pay taxes.

It might be tempting to argue that salaries for non domestic players will be higher, and that tax revenue from those players will therefore be higher too. I'm not sure the data bears that out however. The cost of employing homegrown players is already disproportionately high and driving up demand for their services would drive up their costs too.

I don't know what the data shows regarding this next point but it seems to me that non domestic players are more likely to set up legal offshore pay arrangements for a portion of their earnings and avoid income tax altogether. What must be sure is that they will spend much more of their disposable income outside the UK. This means that indirect tax revenues will be lost, as will be the economic benefit of their spending circulating in the UK economy.

Lastly, there is the clear win for UK revenues of transfer spending staying inside the country and that money circulating around our clubs generating more transfer levies and further economic activity.

It can't simply be assumed that fewer overseas players means less tax revenue for the government, or reduced economic benefit to the UK economy. It could even be that the exact opposites are true.

Frank says...

Shirt deal is a big deal, very pleased.

Tammy hasn't fractured anything, waiting on it not fit for tomorrow.

Impetus to bring in striker is there, same position for Giroud he's in contact with other clubs.

There is choice in the window, January is tough and the choice must be right. Club know my thoughts, wait and see.

I'm aware of Soumare but not this window and know of him.

Kepa will have to deal with the criticism and that's part of being a big player at a big club

Caballero starts tomorrow.

No update on Pedro and Willian contracts

I got the impression there is a choice of strikers we like

And its now down to deciding which of those few we want.

We have been hearing the phrase short term last week or 2, Dembele doesn't come into that.   I still would put my house on it being a loan.

Who could be loaned?  Cavani possibly although unlikely, Slimani? No.  Piatek? Maybe

Can we please make this Brexit talk a separate thread?

I did say above that I think it's a legitimate subject as far as its impact on transfer regulations is concerned, but I'm obviously happy to go along with whatever the majority wants on this.

Slimani really is going the route of desperation dregs.

Oh fuck off

Ugh. I hate when clubs get cheeky over a damn sponsorship deal.

And lol at Three (Tre here in Sweden). I have multiple personal and family ties to them via their old holding company based out of Hong Kong, Hutchison Whampoa and Canning Fok. I am going to explore paths to giving someone at the club my exact thoughts on things, lolol.

Yes keeps using the phrase "The club know my thoughts" so be interesting to see if they give him what he wants

Most likely wants Cavani to replace Giroud and he'll end up with no one or another dud.

Not sure if there's much we can do about Cavani if he really wants to join Atletico, assuming the reports are to be believed.

Unless it's actually coming out of the player's mouth, I don't take much notice of reports.

If he wants to play, there's much more chance of that happening here as things stand.

Not so sure about the latter. Felix is struggling, Morata is inconsistent and Costa has gone downhill. He'll start lots of games there, similar to when David Villa went there and did a decent job for them.

Still can't see how a strike pairing costing over €170m+ would just be dropped in favour of him, not to mention Costa probably kicking up a fuss too.

I guess we'll know by next week at this time anyway.

They play with 2 strikers, so they can easily rotate. As for Costa, he's already over 30 and has been useless since returning to Atletico. They probably would have no qualm about ditching him if he kicks up a fuss TBH.

He'd still be rotated rather than being a certified starter (right now as I previously mentioned). I believe the language barrier could be the deciding factor more than anything for someone of his age.

Either way, we can't cope with one backup CF and most at the club know that.

My son wants Atletico move - Cavani's mum

https://sports.yahoo.com/son-wants-atletico-move-cavani-093550804.html

Edinson Cavani's mother has accused Paris Saint-Germain of "not behaving well" and outlined her son's desire to join Atletico Madrid.

Uruguay international Cavani is PSG's record goalscorer but is expected to leave the Parc des Princes either in January or at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Atletico Madrid have been repeatedly linked with the 32-year-old and he is keen to try his luck in LaLiga.

His mother Berta Gomez told Spanish newspaper AS: "There is an open negotiation. PSG have rejected three proposals from Atletico but my son has asked to leave and we are waiting for an agreement to be reached by both clubs.

"It's complicated but he wants to play at Atletico, if not now, then in the summer. We have been wishing it for years but it does not now depend on my son but on PSG and Atletico."
