Last summer we signed two elite goalscorers and ended up with our worst scoring season in nearly a century.

Sort the system and the goalscoring will take care of itself.

Granted there will be good days where everything is clicking and we will blow teams off the park. But then there will be one of these days where we look like drawing to Burnley and you need a natural finisher to somehow shin one in  at the death for a scrappy undeserved 1-0. And the latter  are the days that win you titles . Without this ability of a good goalscorer to paper over the below par performances that will surely come down the line  you can forget about ever winning the title.

For all their flaws in their overall game both Sterling and Auba have an excellent scoring record down the years.

On paper those two alone should have added 30-40 goals but we barely got to that figure as a team, which is why I laugh when I see comments like "get in a number 9 and some proven PL players" like we haven't already tried it to disastrous results (hopefully 'so far' in Sterling's case).

Sterling is apparently washed up and Auba was already past that. 99% on here had called that he was guaranteed to fail. I did not say we should get a proven PL player or no. 9. It is a terrible market for strikers. Only 10 players last season scored more than 20 goals - in all European leagues. Absolutely crazy. we should accept there are no elite goal scorers available that would bring us forward right now.
We should stick with what we have and hope for some of our attackers to discover their goalscoring instincts. My point is we should not expect anything extraordinary from this young squad as they are yet to demonstrate any meaningful scoring impact. We have to be patient. It will be 3-5 years till we can challenge for the league title again. But we might be able to nick top5 and  a few cups here and there.

The funniest thing is, we have a striker sitting in the reserves/training alone who in an ideal situation would fill that no.9 role.

People say 'proven record'....well that's what he has during his previous stints in the PL and in Serie A.

People say 'experienced'...well, he's definitely experienced.

Such a shame that we're now left with a 97 million dollar hole in the first team squad thanks to Tuchel and the previous management.

Chelsea have reached verbal agreement in principle with Galatasaray for Hakim Ziyech transfer 🚨🟡🔴 #Galatasaray

Deal subject to further details and also medical tests — as Chelsea are careful after twists with PSG and Al Nassr.

Just in case anyone missed, Casadei oficially loaned to Leicester, and Harvey Vale to Bristol Rovers (shame Chelsea twitter didn't even mention it, he played for senior team few times). Good loan for Casadei, disappointing for Vale as Bristol is in League One, however there are no excuses for him now not to perform.

The only way I'd even begin to think about integrating Lukaku back into the first team squad was if he hit his target weight that was worked out with the sports scientists. I'd also tell him we'd be regularly checking him for PEDs to make sure he's not taking short cuts with his weight loss.

For me that would prove he's regained his motivation. Unfortunately, I don't think that he has it in him to do it any more.

Is there a 30+ year old striker out there somewhere who is still clinical and hungry to challenge themselves at a top club? We could do with that even if it’s a loan. That way we can have a stopgap and then reassess the striker market a year from now.

Surprised Vale hasn't got a Championship loan, he has looked pretty useful when I've seen him.

Maybe the gas can help Vale explode..

Seriously though some loans just arent worth doing, might aswell keep them in the younger squads, atleast available in a crisis, can train sometimes with first team,Poch can have a proper look.him and Slonina for example could have great seasons but they will still need a step up loan to be considered ready for our squad or to get a decent fee.

The fee we’re asking now for Ziyech must be super low after all that’s happened. Probably be almost giving him away just so his wages and the headache are away from the club.

Do we even get 15 mil for him?

I doubt it. Any fee we get at all would be a bonus at this point.

Anyways, I see this morning that Liverpool have turned their attention to Doucoure of Palace in their desperate search for a DM. I wonder if us quickly wrapping up Olise could fuck them over again. Palace losing so many of their best players in one summer may be too much for their owners to sanction. Zaha, Olise, and Doucoure all going? Hope they demand £90m from Liverpool.
