ManagingBarca is just an aggregator of actual reports I think, right? So it’s not actually whoever runs that account reporting these things.

They’re quoting Sport there who literally seem to change their story on a daily basis. One day they say he’s coming here, the next to United. So anything they say should be taken with a huge pinch of salt.

Still maintain that of the 3 options (stay at Barca, go to United, go to Chelsea) we are the least likely because we aren’t desperate for him. United’s entire season and perhaps Ten Hag’s entire United career depend on them getting him in order to implement his style. So they’ll be offering him whatever wage he demands. We ain’t paying him £400k a week.

I have never had any significant level of confidence that FDJ is coming here

I am by no means writing it off, but I certainly never got any 'hey, this is happening for real' vibes

What do we need more. A midfielder like de jong? Or a striker or a winger like sterling ? 🤔

Given Kovacic and Kante visit the hospital bed more frequently than their own homes, I say CM.

I personally think Fofana will be enough though. Gallagher, Ruben, and Chukwuemeka can be used as CM depth. Sterling, Broja, Havertz, Pulisic, and Ziyech for attack.

I say if a player is available in a position of need who fits our profile, including of course his age and his qualities, then we take him. The fact that we can't identify or can't attract a player in a different position of need should only affect that decision if the club can only afford one or the other. I don't get the impression that this is the case. Do you?

The guiding principle has to be quality, quality, and patience in acquiring it. Collect top players and top players only. I understand that there are various opinions but from me De Jong is a top player.

Not when you have Boehly at the wheel. I don't think I'm biased when saying there is no way De Jong would prefer United over us right now at this moment in time but the one leading the deal looks like Woodward's lost brother.

If he chooses them over us it’s for several clear reasons.

Playing under his former manager who is also Dutch, earning stratospheric wages that they’ll pay because they’re on their knees begging, and he walks straight into their first XI and is treated like their messiah since they’ve been crying about buying a top midfielder for years.

To us Chelsea supporters it seems insane to choose the current United over us, but those things will clearly appeal to him.

Not even 10 mins into this game and Fofana has already nearly scored a brilliant goal and has made 3-4 great defensive challenges.

We MUST sign him. He’s a monster already and will only get better.

Horrible in the run up to the goal though and Martinelli has had him on toast.

That's concerning.

Especially if we really are planning to break the transfer record just to get him.

Again, have to wonder why we aren't linked with other alternatives for CB.

there are hardly any truly goods ones left

2 who are there for next summer due to contracts:

Gvardiol (release clause kicks in next summer)

Skriniar (free next summer and Inter will not budge off their €75m demand to sell)

then you are left with

the 5 in bold are best bets for  decent buy

Pau Torres  not at all sold on him
José María Giménez far too often injured
Aymeric Laporte  Citeh will not sell him to us
Wesley Fofana  far too expensive IMHO, has been shit today v Arse, just got smoked for a goal
Presnel Kimpembe    has refused to come here, he is staying at PSG
Edmond Tapsoba still not 100% sold on him
Jurrien Timber has grown, is almost 6 feet tall now, same height as Thiago Silva, speed burner
Evan Ndicka lefty
Robin Le Normand
Stefan de Vrij    turns 31yo in less than 6 months
Merih Demiral
Gonçalo Inácio  lefty only 20yo

Mohamed Simakan
Maxence Lacroix would be a dice roll, but certainly has the physical skills
Adam Webster
Ilya Zabarnyi   19yo
Attila Szalai    lefty
