Simon Phillips Goalkeeper News Today:

To recap: We've heard that Chelsea have put together a list of new goalkeepers for the summer transfer window and plan to target one of them if they can get him for the right price.

We've also heard that Sanchez and Petrovic would be for sale in the summer for the right price. We're not sure about Jorgensen, we haven't heard anything yet. However, Sanchez and Petrovic are well amortized and could therefore be sold for a good profit.

So yes, as far as we are concerned, Chelsea are still looking for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are now pushing hard to get a deal in place for Gabriel Mec that would see him move to Stamford Bridge in 2026.

Their latest South American capture for BlueCo is Corinthians full-back Denner.

Chelsea back away from player that was expected to join, with outlet giving reasons why

Chelsea have reportedly backed away from signing a player that was pretty much expected to sign in the summer, and the reasons why have been given out too.

Chelsea were linked with many players during the summer transfer window, and they have been signing up many of them as well, especially the highly rated young players.

However, they aren’t always going to sign them all. Although Chelsea’s links with wanting to sign Brazilian youngster Gabriel Mec seemed very solid and in fact, it looked like it was about to get done at one point.

However, up until now at least, that deal did not get done, and the reasons why sound to be pretty smart from Chelsea.

Mec raised concerns

According to Brazilian publication Globo, Chelsea backed down on its intention to sign Gabriel Mec to observe him more technically. Some of the young player’s performances raised doubts about the investment.

So it’s pretty unclear whether that is now that or not, but it certainly sounds like Chelsea held back a bit and it was probably the right thing to do. We don’t want to be just jumping on every talented young player, especially if we are unsure.

Chelsea would have also had to pay about £15m for the wonderkid once all the add-ons were included. That is a lot of money to pay for an unproven youngster that you are not even sure about signing.

Mec does look to be a very good talent, but you have to be sure before you go in on any new player really. It doesn’t sound like they were as sure on Mec as they were on other young new signings from South America such as Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian, who both look to be excellent signings and provide no cause for doubts.

Despite being a largely uninspired team across the whole tournament and even taking a 0-6 loss in the initial game against fierce rivals Argentina, Brazil ended up winning the 2025 edition of the U20 Sudamericano, their second in a row.

Teams like Colombia and Argentina were packed with talent, while Ecuador and Uruguay (despite having some great players) disappointed their fans. Without further ado, let’s check out some of the better players this year. Also, don’t forget to hit the subscribe button!

Chelsea still in the mix for Gabriel Mec having bid last summer.

- Gremio want £20m+ and a significant sell-on.

- Several European suitors in the race.

- Mec in no rush to decide but Gremio prefer to agree a deal in 2025.

Links have sort of gone cold but more and more I see Gyokores play, the less excited I am at the prospect of signing him.

A lot of the goals he scores, the defending is absolutely pitiful. Like the majority of them are all similar…. he isn’t going to get 30+ metres to run in behind the majority of teams in the PL because the majority of them defend in a mid/low block against us 🤣

I have big questions about him as well. I actually like the look of Delap. He does the basics well with regards to technique for a No.9, he knows where the goal is and is strong. He isn't a finished article but we aren't going to sign one, so as a result he is my realistic choice for CF. Gyorekes for me is benefiting from a weak league. I am not convinced about his technique and I worry that in the PL he won't be able to bully like he does in Portugal.

I think Delap has got a limited ceiling als o - for pretty similar reasons. His technique and maybe a bit of his footballing understanding of the game. I am 90% convinced he will struggle next season if Ipswich stay up as teams will have figured him out - he is a tad one dimensional, I don’t think he has that little bit of subtly to get himself a half yard in moments that are extremely tight in and around the box like the guys who go on to be the top strikers do. Not that he cannot develop those aspects a bit more but I get the feeling that he isn’t really going to take the technical side of his game to that next level to become a more complete player.

Maybe he does but for me, I think his rise is a bit similar to Ross Barkley’s in all honesty, clearly different positions but Barkley was another guy who excelled at youth level and when he initially started at Everton but once teams realised how to cope with him and stop him imposing himself on games with his physicality, he looked a very very ordinary player.

I get folk may pile on and say well look at Haaland for City technically he isn’t that great but he tends to scores between 35-45 goals a season. But that guy is a rarity. I feel Isak could potentially be a good option but I don’t think we would be even remotely close to his top 5 choices never mind his 1st. Another project attacker isn’t going to do us or the manager any favours and it is absolutely clear that some more reliable output from attackers is going to be key to any real progress being made in the coming seasons.
