Chelsea begins discussions over signing Youssoufa Moukoko in January, but the situation with Dortmund could become tricky.

According to Give Me Sport, Chelsea are looking to sign Youssoufa Moukoko in January as they begin talks to understand the deal. The 18-year-old striker could also use the interest from the Blues as leverage to get a better deal at Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea are going all out in the market to acquire some of the best young talents from everywhere. They began planning on recruiting players of a younger age to build an exciting project for the future and, so far, have attained success in their chases.

After signing Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana, Chelsea remains linked with every possible young talent in the market. They have also signed David Fofana from Molde. The Blues are also on the verge of bringing Brazilian star Andrey Santos from Vasco Da Gama.

The list does not end there, as Borussia Dortmund’s highly-rated 18-year-old striker Youssoufa Moukoko could become their next target. Despite the arrival of David Fofana, who was initially considered the direct replacement for the injured Armando Broja, Chelsea may be planning something much bigger.

With David Fofana, they may decide on his future once the signing is officially complete. That includes letting him play with the youth sides for a while or even sending him out on loan. Hence, the Moukoko pursuit gains interest as the 18-year-old striker could become an important first-team member.

Moukoko is a striker with huge potential and has already earned a World Cup call-up with Germany in Qatar. Dortmund considers him important, but they find themselves in a tricky position with the 18-year-old striker’s contractual situation.

Moukoko’s current deal expires in the summer, which leaves the field open for clubs outside of Germany to negotiate a pre-contract. If Dortmund cannot agree on fresh terms, they would likely prefer to sell him in January than let him leave on a Bosman move.

Chelsea are sensing an opportunity to get their hands on one of the brightest young talents on the continent. The Blues could repeat their recent strategy and look to agree on a deal with Dortmund by paying a reasonable fee. The Bundesliga side wants around £26 million to let him leave next month.

The Premier League side has reportedly begun discussions over signing Moukoko in January. The initial talks would involve understanding the details and then making an official approach to convince the player.

Chelsea may have originally wanted to agree on a pre-contract. There are chances Moukoko could leverage the interest to land an improved contract at Dortmund. If that happens, the Blues will get played in this saga, and the player will end up with the best seat in the theatre.

Moreover, if the player waits until the summer before deciding on his next move, Chelsea fears there will be more clubs in the equation. Those circumstances would make it tough for the Blues to convince Moukoko to join them.

For supporters of ESTAC Troyes, these are exciting times…

A yoyo team for much of the past decade, ESTAC won the Ligue 2 title in 2021, and after surviving last season, they’re looking very much at home in Ligue 1 this term, and appear to be here to stay.

Part of the powerful City Football Group, one of Troyes’ strengths is their ability to attract young talents, including the 17-year-old prodigy Wilson Odobert.

The pacy attacker, who moved to Champagne country from Paris Saint-Germain in the close season, is featuring regularly under coach Bruno Irles. His silky skills, direct running and goals have helped Troyes climb to the relative comfort of mid-table.

'Big potential'

“He’s a boy who is discovering senior football with us this season,” coach Irles told The Ligue 1 Show on beIN Sports. He was playing in the Under-19s last season. He has big potential, but he must take one step at a time.”

Irles is being careful with the precocious dribbler, often using Odobert’s talents off the bench. That was the case last weekend when Troyes took on their local rivals Stade de Reims. Just 34 minutes in, however, an injury to Lucien Agoumé prompted the hosts to make an early change. Odobert was immediately in the thick of the action.

“He didn’t start the game, but he was important when he came on,” added Irles. “He’s very humble, he listens, he works hard. He played well at Clermont, then found himself on the bench. When he came on he showed the right attitude.”

Odobert equalised for Troyes six minutes into the second half, taking advantage of a goalkeeping error to notch his third goal of the season. Already a popular figure in the dressing, his first weeks at Troyes have been mightily impressive.

 

Secret weapon

“He’s a good kid with a big future ahead of him. We’re trying to help him as much as we can, and I think he could have a great career,” said teammate Renaud Ripart.

World Cup-winning centre-back Adil Rami added: “He’s very lively, he has energy and gives everyone around him energy. He presses very well too, and that’s important to say, because not everyone closes down like that. He has a big future and we’ll take good care of him.”

 

Jackson Porozo’s late goal clinched Troyes a share of the spoils against Reims and Odobert enjoyed the celebrations as much as anyone. The teenager’s goals have contributed to two wins and a draw now, and Irles knows it’ll get harder and harder to keep the club’s secret weapon out of the limelight.

“If he’s getting minutes, it’s because he deserves it. He has a great season ahead of him, it’ll be up to me to manage him well,” he said.

Not that we should be 'turning into Arsenal' but the team needs significant change.  I don't mind the long term view point from the club as we have been "papering over the cracks" for a while and if this means there will be a bit of a clear out in the next 2-3 transfer windows, that may be a good thing. 

The question will be, can the club & Potter attract top class players during this period of transition (especially if CL football is out of reach)

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is reportedly open to making a move to Chelsea in the summer.

According to the report by The Atlhetic, the English midfielder is ready to sign for the London giants but on one condition, i.e, they qualify for the Champions League this season.

As per the report by Daily Mail, West Ham are looking for £100 million for the 23-year-old, while, The Athletic have reported that they are looking for a fee around £150 million.

And if the new owners decide to hand Potter an open chequebook, it will be impossible for David Moyes to stop the move from happening.

Declan, according to the Athletic, is refusing to sign a new contract with West Ham and will leave the club in the summer of 2023 with the player looking forward to making a move to Chelsea but only if they qualify for the most prestigious European competition.

His contract with the Hammers expires in 2025 and this will perhaps be one of the only chance West Ham will get to maximise their profit on him.

The thing is, which potential CL club both needs a new DM and will also spend over £100m on Rice? City won’t because they don’t need him. Arse could do with him I guess but would never pay that much. Liverpool could technically use him but are looking at other midfielders. United just signed one of the top players in his position. West Ham to Newcastle would be a sideways move. Spuds would never spend £100m or more on a DM.

We look like the only realistic option for him. Couple of aging midfielders coming off our books, best mate is here, his boyhood club etc.
