This is Sevilla's arguably number 1 source giving his view of Romeros "Barca asked him to go to Portugal, should have had medical with us today etc but chose to listen to barca instead"

The Sevilla guys view  "Dumb, Dumb Dumb"

Romero should be gospel now after Raphinha.

As long as RJ and Chilly stay fit and TT plays his 343 we can basically stick two training cones next to Thiago and still be defensively resilient. so I am not too bothered about how this saga ends.

It is always frustrating when You lose out on your primary targets. Esp vs Brokealona. But there are still a few great cheap cb options out there.

If we don't get him, I just hope we don't panic buy someone. @Vesperput a list on here last night of centre backs remaining on the market and bar maybe Skriniar and Gvardiol, none stand out to me as worth pursuing. I'd rather just rely on Chalobah developing and playing more regularly next season in that role, or target a right wing back to allow James to play more regularly in the back 3.

if the Kounde deal is actually scuppered by Barca,

and

if you take Gvardiol (2023 release clause in only viable way to buy him) off the board

then we are down to these CB buy options

Milan Skriniar
Alessandro Bastoni
Pau Torres
José María Giménez
Presnel Kimpembe
Evan Ndicka

Robin Le Normand
Stefan de Vrij
Merih Demiral
Gonçalo Inácio
Roger Ibañez

Thilo Kehrer
Odilon Kossounou
Castello Lukeba
Maxence Lacroix
Abdou Diallo
Piero Hincapié
Adam Webster
David Carmo
Min-jae Kim
Attila Szalai
Armel Bella-Kotchap

Unfortunately for us, we've targeted a number of players this window that other teams have also courted and likely worked on longer than us.

Raphinha I'll give you, his move was being worked on by Barca since early this year (Feb-March) so once the sanctions got lifted and Chelsea could start doing business it was always going to be difficult to change his mind.

Kounde situation is very different though. If we end up missing out on him the blame will be entirely on Boehly and Tuchel. It's a transfer that was like 95% done last year, only for things to fall through last minute when Sevilla raised their asking price but the player was definitely more than happy to join and personal terms were agreed a year ago. Pretty much all of last season everyone was thinking it was in the bag for this summer and at the beginning of the transfer window we had a totally free run at him for all of June with no other clubs in for him but Boehly/Tuchel spent the month chasing after De Ligt and Ake instead, only to miss out on both of them as well. Eventually the focus shifted back to Kounde but now it looks like it may have been too late.

I wasn't all that bothered about Kounde last year and was quite happy for Chalobah to be given the chance instead and I'm not that bothered about him now either but some new CB sure as hell needs to be signed and the options are running out. And most of all it's definitely not a good look on the club to dick around multiple targets only to miss out on or get rejected by almost all of them.

Sevilla FC left for Lagos this afternoon to continue preparing for the coming season. Obviously, the name in capital letters is that of Jules Koundé , who in principle was not part of the 31 players selected by Lopetegui... However, the Frenchman has appeared at the sports city. To keep training? To say goodbye to his companions?

Around 6:00 p.m., the defender made an appearance at the Utrera highway compound, at the same time as the rest of his teammates. He wasn't summoned, so it was rare to see him if he wasn't going to Lagos. The morning work was done alone. In the afternoon, at that time, it is not very common for a training session to start at this time of the year.

Finally, as Muchodeporte has been able to confirm , Koundé has gotten on the bus and is traveling to Portugal. The player himself has asked to do so so as not to be alone in the sports city and thus continue working with more means (physios, masseuses, doctors...) than if he stayed in Seville going to the sports city with less support for his recovery. Koundé works at a slower pace as he recently had pubic surgery.

This fact should not spoil the negotiation between Sevilla and Chelsea. In fact, the agreement is close. Of course, it has not been finished. An operation of such magnitude entails a multitude of details that have not yet been resolved. It is in it. Sevilla's intention is that everything is closed at 65 million euros, including variables. Meanwhile, Barça buys time trying to convince the player to wait for the money to arrive at the Blaugrana entity and thus be able to make a powerful offer in days. The player must head to London sooner rather than later, but such an extreme cannot be taken for granted until the million-dollar operation is completed one hundred percent. At the moment, Koundé was not going to go to Lagos... and he is already on his way to Portuguese lands.

Groundwork would have been laid last summer with Kounde but Sevilla moving the goalposts will have meant having to go back to the table with them and potentially negotiating from scratch again. I think it seems to have been widely recognised now whilst Tuchel likes him, he was a signing identified by the club. It made sense for the new ownership and Tuchel to explore other options first. Ake is the one that looks silly in my opinion,  but making moves for De Ligt, Koulibaly, Kimpembe I can understand reasons for exploring all of those before Kounde.

Also should be noted this situation is different to Raphinha. We went in blind to that situation and chanced. From what is being reported we've agreed a deal with Kounde, and are still finalising a deal with Sevilla. If he does indeed choose Barca then so be it.

Overacting a little bit there by the way.

So far Todd has done a good job.

If we get Kounde or Gvardiol, a mid and an attacker he will have done a fantastic job.

Patience.

So far, have we been seriously linked with a midfielder (FDJ rumours aside)?

No not yet. We need a DM and unfortunately I don't think there are many out there.
