PSG is offloading him for the same reason we offloaded JT just a season after one in which he played 38 PL games, was one of the best CBs in the league and won us the PL too, which is moving on One person's trash is another's gold. We need a leader. Some one to control the backline. And organize shit. Clearly our first choice was Jimenez or rice. But we cant afford them with the lay over we already have this season. So if it's next season, silva is a perfect stop gap signing. Hardly costs us anything in wages or fees. Thiago Silva almost accepted Fiorentina's contract offer at £70K/wk so it stands to reason that's likely to be close to what he's after. At Chelsea he should be getting around £100K/wk, seeing as there are higher taxes in England than in Italy. Signing bonuses and agent fees shouldn't be that big in a transfer like this (reasonable wages, short-term contract, no lengthy negotiations between clubs etc.) so at the very most we're looking at around £10M for a year of Thiago Silva. And that is if we assume the signing bonuses and agent fees amount to roughly the same as the actual contract, which is highly unlikely. That is a very low amount of money for a player who could still easily be a starter at the club. Just for context, the on the books cost (amortisation+wages) for players like Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Bakayoko, Batshuayi etc. is around £10-15M each. Like I said earlier, there is very little risk in signing Thiago Silva as a free agent. And im certain our cb's can do better, our whole defensive shape is not coached well enough at this level. We will hope for the best whether he comes or not. Very tasking because its quite a physical league where others are more technical, lyon knocked man City out the CL, think lyon finished 7th and man City 2nd.
