So is onana actually any good? Seen him v us obviously but can't remember much of him. Is he that much of an upgrade on the tube we've got now (I know that's not hard)

Apparently he is very talented, playing at the highest level for some years, and would not cost a lot.

Better than Kepa but still error-prones according to Ajax fans.

Yeah, I have been doing a bit more research on Onana recently. From what I have seen, he is one of those GK's that cannot handle anything and pushes everything away, a lot of time back into dangerous areas.

I do not rate him at all.

I also said in the transfer target thread that he is a very clumsy GK, but stats wise he seems to be good this season.

Stats mean F all if Onana is gonna make blunders like those above. The Premier League is much more physical than the Eredivisie and we certainly don't need a keeper who is gonna flap at crosses. What's the point of having someone opposite to Kepa? Might as well just keep him then...

Onana is definitely one of the most physical GK around and he may be even one of the most technical players out there. I think only Nick Pope catches more balls than Onana in Europe. I have read a stat saying that somewhere. Good jumping abilities too. He is just clumsy and that is his biggest issue.

And we don't need a clumsy keeper. We need a solid keeper.

And who would you recommend?

Dean Henderson. We gotta test the waters, surely, at the very least.

OR if we can somehow afford it, Oblak.

But Oblak struggles with set pieces too. He is not the tallest GK and also not the most physical. But he is the best shot stopper in Europe. Even he has weaknesses

If we get our defensive organization right, Oblak doesn't always have to come for set pieces. Not every keeper does it for every set piece situation anyway. For starters, being a solid stopper would be a big plus already.

Breaking the bank for a keeper again would be madness. Only if we can manage it to be a swap with Kepa and Oblak being ready to slash his wages in half the his deal should be sanctioned otherwise it will be catastrophic. Unrealistic to happen so pass for me.
also Oblak Display in the CL final 2016 were he just stood there was one of the most shameful I have ever seen

i would like a solid young option with huge upside like cakir, Henderson or Rankovic but I would not mind an cheap stop gap who has proven to be a solid performer either like Martinez or dubravka
