Arse are winning or at least not losing nonstop these days. They also have no COVID issues and have no European football to tire their players.

All they really need to do is smack the shit teams below them like they’ve been doing whilst we drop points to all of those same teams.

We could end up finding ourselves this season in a position in between everyone else where we're ahead of the pack chasing top 4 but not close enough to challenge City and Liverpool. That might not be the worst position to find ourselves in the latter part of the season if we're still in cup competitions and Europe as for once it may give us an opportunity to rest and rotate to concentrate on them instead of having to go full pelt in everything at the end of the season.

It appears next to impossible for us to create something from the central axis. Have you noticed that ?

Yeahhhhh....theyve climbed from the bottom to 4th..and quietly! Sure they'll drop points but so are we..a lot. Need to get a winning run going then all be good but unfortunately..not happening.

Yes, injuries and COVID have caused issues recently but easy to forget that this group haven't had a title challenge together as a group compared to the other two teams. City and Liverpool took a while to get going when Guardiola and Klopp first went there and even we had needed at least one season to "prepare" before winning the league in the past (2003/04 and 2013/14). A sustained title challenge of some sort or just a comfortable 3rd place finish without scraping for a Top 4 place again would already be an improvement on previous seasons. 

City finished 15pts  behind us in the first pep season and walked the league with 100 points the year after. I don’t think you need a year to compete first before winning the league

our title challenge wen tout the window the moment Chilwell picked up that injury. Before that I would not have dismissed it altogether

The point is having the time to build something first. Tuchel spent the second half of last season with just trying to get Top 4. This is practically is his first full season with us to build something sustainable for the future. It's not as if this team are already a winning machine and any manager coming in can just continue winning (like the squad with Cech, Terry, Lampard, Cole, Drogba etc). Guardiola took a season to fine tune City to his liking but otherwise, that squad already had title winners etc (e.g. Kompany, Aguero, Silva). 

You're asking a lot from a side who have not picked up more than 72 points in the last 4 seasons, who have struggled to finish in the Top 4 in those seasons to suddenly start hitting 90+ points and win the title. 3 of the last 4 league seasons were won by the side getting at least 98 points while the other one was 86 points. On top of that, people spent almost every week here complaining about this flaw and that flaw of our players and yet at the same time, are surprised when we can't match the consistency of Liverpool and Man City.

I don't care if the alternative is Alonso and while Chilwell was in form before his injury, I just don't buy to the idea that our title challenge went south because of his injury, because of one player and one who is a LWB. One LWB injury can't be the excuse for the entire team to go on a meltdown and forgetting how to defend and finish chances. Plus, there's no guarantee that it wouldn't have gone south anyway even if he had not gotten the injury. We have had so many seasons over the last decade where we started well, looked like title challengers, only to fall away from November-December.

They've lost twice in recent weeks we've lost once.

They've apparently been on the verge of dethroning us since 2008.

If there was one positive from this match.

Its that Kante & Kovacic are back and seemingly playing okay, and we therefore look like a more balanced team again as a result. Even Saul wasn't dreadful for once.

We really needed a win here to stay in a title challenge, but anyway I'm at least looking forward to the next match. If we get at least one player from Havertz/Werner back, we should be back to winning ways.

Exactly, current form. Current from a few weeks ago had us on track for a quadruple.

The reality is we're somewhere deep inbetween both extremes.
