That's the issue. Rice is seen as their next captain and talisman. He will cost a kings ransom. Even if he is desperate to leave and hands in a transfer request West Ham have no reason to sell since he's got years left on his deal.

Very, very hard to see it happening but I hope we try.

Rice will have to pull a Payet and ask for the transfer.

Matt Law on Havertz deal...

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/07/27/chelsea-talks-withbayer-leverkusen-fee-midfielder-kai-havertz/

Chelsea are making progress in their bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz with the two clubs now in talks over a fee, but the Londoners will delay discussions regarding the future of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga until after Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Confidence is building that Havertz will move to Stamford Bridge after the player expressed his desire to join German team-mates Timo Werner and Antonio Rüdiger at Chelsea and Frank Lampard’s team secured Champions League qualification.

Personal terms will not be a problem for Chelsea, with talks now aimed at the two clubs agreeing a fee for 21-year-old Havertz who will not be forced to play in next Thursday’s Europa League tie against Rangers if it could jeopardise a deal.

Leverkusen last summer turned down a bid of £82 million from Bayern Munich for Havertz and now value him even higher. But the midfielder’s contract only has two years remaining and neither Bayern nor Real Madrid will rival Chelsea for his signature this year.

That leaves Chelsea in a strong negotiating position, particularly as Havertz has indicated that he wants to move to England to team up with Rüdiger and Werner, who watched the final-day Premier League victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and trained for the first time at Cobham on Monday.

While the signing of Havertz was not dependent on Chelsea qualifying for the Champions League, it is expected to advance negotiations this week as both clubs are eager for the transfer not to drag on too long.

I think he'd probably want it sorted before they play Europa v Rangers.  That way he will have no doubts and confusion over whats going on.   Could even mean that potentially, he may miss the EL and fly over to England in a week or 2 and train with us.  Either way I suspect it'll not drag on.

Haven't seen Sky Germany report anything today though

He is a much better finisher than RLC and has a lot better movement in the box.

He moves just like him, if anything with less mobility but like you said, I think he has better positional awsreness than RLC. I still think RLC could become a top, top player given the playing time.

Cech is probably on his way to Germany right now. Would be great if Kai can be here to watch us play the final against Arse. Altough that's probably a bit to early.

Difference between Harvetz and RLC is that Harvetz is able to anticipate the play, whereas RLC is reactive to the play. It is why you see Harvetz finding space a lot more frequently or arriving/ghosting in at the right moment like SFL did.

Look at this video:

This is why people talk about Havertz being generational as he can score all types of goals: first time volleys, chips over the GK under pressure, one touch then bang from outside the area whilst under pressure, headers, ghosting in on the shoulder of the defender. Further, he can finish with both feet.

RLC I do like but his work rate and anticipation off the ball are nowhere near Harvetz level, whilst it needs to be remembered he is 3 years older as well.

Havertz is not famous for work rate. He does not press that well, or at least that was the case whenever I watched him.

Yeah, I kind of made a mistake there. I was meant to say Harvetz's work rate is better whilst it is his anticipation that is way beyond RLC.

I know you're quite a big RLC fan, and I do like the player, but boy, whilst you are right that Harvetz isn't amazing off the ball, he is still a lot better than RLC who always does the bare minimum.

Has anyone actually watched Kai Havertz play a full 90 and not just going off Youtube highlights??

If so, could you tell me if he's really worth the hype.

I have watched 4 games on youtube... his highlights vs Argenitina, Athletico, Dortmund and some shyte German team.

He does not look a like 90m Euros player.. 😅

Keep in mind that he has been playing in a solid team with decent teammates. Nothing like the talent he'd be playing with here. So I can imagine him being even more effective with the likes of Werner, Ziyech, Pulisic etc.

I've posted several all touches videos in this thread. I've done so precisely to offer some contrary information to set against the hype. I like Havertz and hope we sign him but he's a human, not an 'extra-terrestrial'.

I said in an earlier comment that if we do get him, that, in itself, would be good evidence that he is not as good as we, and specifically me, might have believed. If he were, the bigger beasts would want him and we would have no chance. I see this as a benefit however, not a drawback. If he was good enough to be wanted and bought by more attractive clubs, what good would that do us? It's a Catch-22 situation. We really want him because we think he's a generational talent, but if he was really a generational talent we would never get him.

We would be wise therefore not to over estimate Havertz, or to over value him in transfer negotiations. He does still have very desirable attributes mind you. Attributes which make it worth taking our chance to grab him: -

 - He sees passes which others don't and these are often devastating when they come off.

 - For someone so strongly one-footed, he has a wider passing arc than we should expect. His good body control allows him to make passes with his left foot that you would think are more likely to be made with the right foot. Teams will obviously target his one-footedness however.

 - He scores goals including with his head.

Also pretty tall, 189cm, and pretty fast as well.
