Chelsea are attempting to convince Bayer Leverkusen to lower the asking price for Kai Havertz as they look to complete a deal to sign the Germany forward.

While Havertz is determined to join Frank Lampard’s side this summer, Chelsea’s latest offer of €65m (£58.6m) plus €15m in add-ons falls below Leverkusen’s valuation. The Bundesliga side are determined to hold out for €100m for the highly rated 21-year-old.

Chelsea, who have already agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with Havertz, remain in talks with Leverkusen but are likely to have to increase their offer, potentially via agreeing to pay more in add-ons. However, while Leverkusen are aware that Havertz wants to leave, they do not want the issue to drag on and affect their preparations for the new Bundesliga season, which starts on 18 September.

Havertz is regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe and signing him would represent a coup for Chelsea, who have already strengthened their attack with the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have courted the Germany international but are unable to afford him this summer, leaving Chelsea in pole position. Havertz, who has two years left on his current deal, is keen for a fresh challenge following Leverkusen’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

However Leverkusen, who are interested in bolstering their attack by signing Patrick Schick from Roma for €28m, remain determined to extract full value for Havertz. The question for Chelsea, who have allowed the veteran wingers Pedro and Willian to join Roma and Arsenal respectively, is how high they are willing to go. Lampard needs to ensure he still has funds for defensive reinforcements.

Chelsea conceded 54 goals in the league despite finishing fourth last season and need to improve at the back. They are interested in West Ham’s defensive midfielder, Declan Rice, and the Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell. It is understood that suggestions of a deal for Chilwell being close are premature. However Chelsea could ramp up their interest in the England left-back if Emerson Palmieri seals a move to Internazionale.

Kai Havertz set to become the most expensive German player in history – the latest

https://www.getfootballnewsgermany.com/2020/kai-havertz-set-to-become-the-most-expensive-german-player-in-history-the-latest/

Chelsea are close to signing 21-year-old Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz for a fee reported to be around €100 million, according to Sport Bild.

The Germany international will sign a five-year contract with the Premier League club worth €100 million, including bonuses, which would make Havertz the most expensive German player of all time.

It’s suggested that the 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea but the two clubs now need to finalise a final transfer package before the talented German forward can join Frank Lampard’s side.

Talks have excelled over recent days after Leverkusen were knocked out of the Europa League by Italian side Inter Milan with Havertz keen to get his Premier League move sealed as soon as possible.

Havertz is one of world football’s brightest prospects and last season scored 18 times and assisted on 9 occasions in 45 matches across all competitions. His versatility to play either as a striker, attacking midfielder or as a right-winger make him one of the most desirable young players available in this summers transfer-market.

“We have a clear and mutual agreement with him and his representatives that he can only leave under certain conditions. Otherwise he will stay,” Leverkusen chief Rudi Völler told Kicker last week.

The pressure will also be coming from Havertz onto Leverkusen, the kid will want to get training and start as quick as possible here.

Like I said before, it is in the interest of Leverkusen to get this done, they need the money to strengthen and the season starts soon.

Why are we fucking around? I know he wants to come here but it just takes a club to offer 10-15M more than us to steal him basically by sounds of it because Leverkusen want a deal done. Get the finger out. Fuck sakes. Id be royally fucked off if United come in and drop the money they apparently bid for Sancho on him and get him.

Falk's update last night suggested this was just about done. Now this latest brief from some English reporters makes it sound as though this will continue to drag on for a while. Bayer digging their heels in, Chelsea trying to lower their asking price.

Basically nothing has changed...

Is it? It seems Havertz has pushed for the move again and there seems to be greater urgency now on both clubs' part to agree on a deal sooner rather than later.

When will people realize that United don't need a player like Havertz?

I would trust Falck over the English gutter press.
