Completely agree, I said this in the match thread, he's had an opportunity to show something in every game this pre-season and hasn't really shown anything to deserve a place in the starting 11 for me. Sounds crazy but I would like to see Willian given a go in that position I don't think he'd do anything worse than Barkley has in the last 3 games.

Very unlikely I know but if that were to happen it would allow Pedro/CHO to fight for RW between them. Either can move over to LW if needed.

Willian has no defensive nous for that position, literally zero.

Honestly i don't think he does enough and people are happy he is not garbage. For me the only thing he does well is carry the ball in space and decent movement off the ball. His passing is not sharp enough in the build up. Can't really beat anyone in tight space with feet/dribbling, doesn't really have the vision or passing to create in the final third. Not really providing anything meaningful from a defensive standpoint.

Does anyone here think he warrants a starting position? For me absolutely no, but it is nice to see him in shape.

I just don't get it. Midtable player if you ask me and I've been saying that even before he signed. And I'd rather have club trained Loftus-Cheek in the team rather than Barkley.

I personally think Barkley has more potential than RLC. Midtable players given the right coaching and enviornment can become top teir challangers or evem winners. Prime examples, Milner, Henderson, Nicky Butt Ect.

Milner is a better player than Barkley and Henderson had to re-invent himself as a defensive midfielder to be of any real use to Liverpool. But Henderson isn't good enough for a team that wants to win titles. Not as a starter anyway.

And all those players you mentioned also possess a very high work rate and are/were very selfless players.

Barkley posseses decent skill but doesn't stand out in terms of physical attributes and is very lacking tactically. He doesn't know how to move and I find his decision-making very unimpressive. I also find him quite lackadaisical. Wilshere is the superior talent imo and now plays for WHU. Our very own Joe Cole was a superior talent as well and he never truly established himself at Chels.

I'd rather have a player like Lallana in my team.

I understand where you are coming from but I think this is a conversation to have once the season is over. Give him a season in a Chelsea shirt under Sarri before you judge. I think that is fair to ask for anyone who wears the shirt.

I think he's being written off way too early. missed an entire year of football and is now just starting to find his feet again. His preseason has been very encouraging, he just needs repetition on more consistency... It'll take time,

On the edge of things. Looks fit and determined but not doing quite enough in making a difference in the final third.

This pre season there have been too many promising moments he should have done better ruined by simple poor quality, either a poor pass, or wrongly timed pass etc. And I hope it is just rustiness.

We know he is capable of better things in final third. It's his first preseason here and coming back from long term injury.. He will need some time for sure but I have high hopes for him. That nr. 10 position is there to grab it

Really hope this comes off but we need some goals from him

Ross Barkley has a chance to rock like Marek Hamsik at Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea

I hope he improves on his speed of thought and decision making. He's a tad too slow in this aspects.

Thought he did well 30 mins onwards. We lost some midfield control when he came off for cheek (who drifted as usual)

agreed on Ross and RLC. Though I think RLC was more of positioning than workrate as he moved higher than where Ross had been playing. I just don't know if that was instruction he misread the game, which is def something he needs to improve on.

Promising start, but Ross needs to do more in possession though - RLC excuses no longer apply to him at 24.

100% agree with that. Barkley has done well getting into shape, said all the right things about succeeding and even revealed he studied Napoli so he can get to grasp what Sarri wants but he really needs to start making a difference on the pitch. At the moment, he's like neither here nor there.

Absolutely, he needs to step up. On the other hand, it is still an improvement on Bakayoko from last season. No silly mistakes etc. But yeah, at Chelsea we require more.

Yup and with Kovacic waiting in the wings, he needs to buck up his ideas.
