For how long?

The ball doesn't go down to the other end of the pitch when he touches it in training?

I'll be honest, I was excited for him to come.  I thought he was going to be new-era Essien with runs through midfield.  His first match was his high point.

With our current transfer "strategy" we can't really afford to whiff on any players.

There's a sequel to the first video up on youtube:

OMG those 2 videos were sooooo depressing (and so accurate) :( Bakayoko is to Conte what Branislav Ivanović was to Mourinho and Guus Hiddink in 2015-16, they both kept getting started when they were absolute shite.

Good call by Conte to basically state the obvious and get it out of the way. So what does he do?

(1) Play 3-4-3 and go with Kante and Drinkwater with Hazard, Morata, Pedro/Willian

(2) Play 3-5-2 and go with  Drinkwater, Fabregas and Kante with Hazard and Morata.

I'm going with option (1) for the home tie and option (2) for the away tie. The 3-5-2 has run its course at home. We need to go 3-4-3 and try and make a statement at SB because we'll get nothing at Camp Nou.

Swap Morata for Giroud

The only thing that can get us a goal against Barcelona is pace. Giroud has none whatsoever. (IMO morata is also twice the player but that’s imo).

dont think we will get to see much of the football even at SB.

At least Baka not playing helps too as he’d be handing the ball back to Barca way too often.

I think if he became 3x the player he currently is, he'd end up quite like Tottenham's Dembele. Not a terrible bench option for us.

But he isn't made of magic.

Currently there's only one player he actually resembles, and it's the most incredible coincidence considering that the other player has been on our books this whole time - Ruben damn Loftus Cheek.
How did we end up with literally the 2 most lazy, languid midfielders to ever be over 6ft? They're so similar, yet such rare kind of players (I can't name 1 team who has a player with the sum of their traits, nevermind 2 of these players). It's haunting.

TC going the extra mile... like insulting Toure just wasn’t enough was it? ;)

Of course I’m not talking about definite ability - I’m talking about his profile as a player. A strong defensive midfielder with big presence, that should be good at driving the ball forward whilst chipping in with a few goals. That’s the sort of player Bakayoko is, not really a technical B2B midfielder that is deadly in the final third (Toure).

Honestly I think his career will go the way of being a box to box midfielder, hes not exactly brilliant tactically, I reckon he'd struggle to play a fixed role as a holding midfielder. He can break the lines pretty well, did that for Monaco, but honestly unless he improves drastically he won't be a long term feature here and rightly so, 40m should get you so much more. People complained about Rami and lack of technical ability for a box to box midfielder at times but in all honesty he was 10 times the player Baka is and technically on another level (which says alot because Ramires was also infuriating when it came to how he would use the ball).

Nah I got your point - was just pulling your leg. :P

though in terms of characteristics alone I agree with MoSalah above in that he’s far more like a b2b which is toure, not vieira.

tbf as good a toure was, vieira was prob one the best holding mids I ever seen play the game.

I don’t know, I don’t think his attributes would translate too well as a B2B midfielder, unless he suddenly became effective in the final third which is extremely unlikely. IMO he has a better future as a holding mid, but he’d need to learn the role a lot. I also don’t think Ramires was/is better technically than Bakayoko. Ramires was just an incredible athlete and used that very well.

You’re probably right though, just don’t think he should be playing as a B2B mid if he wants to be an important player.
