Fernando 6,589
Time for some honesty. Pellegrini is just not going to cut it. This Citeh side doesn't have enough spirit or desire. That's that. United actually don't have as good a team as us or Citeh. Ferguson was the difference. Now that will be exposed. We're favourites and rightly so. You could quote me in a years time and this could all blow up in my face...but I doubt it.This city does not have enough spirit and desire? The same city we could not beat for shit this season? And too soon to come to conclusion against moyes. Wait at least half a season. laura90
Leif 6,006
Mourinho has always had Wenger figured out. He won't be a problem next season especially considering his squad is laughable now. Then there's David and Manuel - That's laughable compared to Sir Alex Ferguson and whoever else he may have competed against around the top 4 when he was here (such as Benitez). I doubt 'smaller' managers will be able to figure Mou out; I only think Laudrup will get the better of him due to his understanding of continental styles which a lot of managers in our league currently lack; and by 'get the better of him' I mean tactically matching us when we meet and earning a draw.Next season I think all eyes will be on Mourinho and AVB. Both have had similar career paths when you take into consideration they both did great at Porto then jumped over to London and obviously they both know eachother extremely well. Regardless how good/bad Tottenham's squad is next season, I think if AVB is still there (which is most likely) they will be our team to beat. People are not respecting him enough and that's wrong. He did bad in Madrid, but so did Mourinho. Then pellegrini bounce back with Malaga. That's all that a good manager can do after a bad spell, bounce back. Like we are hoping Mourinho will do on his return. The same city we could not beat for shit this season? There's a difference between skill and desire. Citeh have a better team than us at the moment but everyone can see they are a team full of Mercenaries with little motivation when it get's tough, evident this season. Their whole season was just one big collapse.Even without Mourinho we have that drive. With Mourinho that strong winning mentaility will be back. I think everyone knew that with mancini at the helm they will under perform. And not to mention as you said they have a better squad and with a better manager they should be a real force. All the while we still got people like Mikel and torres in our team... No one will challenge if come the new season players like that are still around. laura90
Leif 6,006
The thing with Pellegrini is he's overachieved. Not 'made great achievements' (although with Villarreal he did do something special). Causing upsets with smaller clubs doesn't mean you're ready for the big time. I have no doubt he's a good tactician, but I have doubts as to whether he can manage a squad with huge ego's - which you get at every top club. He certainly didn't manage at Madrid. Mancini rotated too much - Pellegrini doesn't rotate enough. His players often play with niggling troubles in their legs and it's evident on the pitch. He's too stubborn like AVB was at his time here. I do believe that, in the long run, Pellegrini would be good for City - calm, collected, suave - but in the short-run, he hasn't got that fire in his belly to get the Man City players back on their feet and fighting like champions. He gets attached to clubs quickly and emotionally invested, but the City players don't want a 'daddy' like our players got with Mourinho I don't think. They want some hard bastard to come in with a whip and just motivate the hell out of them. On a note regarding City and away from Manuel - I find it great that while we won the title around a decade ago, we've continued playing at the top despite our low league finish last year. City have done nothing of note in the Champions League. They've choked in the FA Cup this season and can't get into their highest gear in the league for some reason. I think what we've done and continue to do is special. Clubs with cash injections - City, Anzhi, PSG, Monaco, Malaga (well, at a point) - I don't see any of them having the top-status longevity we've managed to achieve. We have a special owner. We have a special and at times questionable board. We just have 'something' the others club don't have. This will be evident when we win every domestic trophy available next season. nono 791
The only irreplaceable players in the squad imo are Luiz, Hazard, Mata, and perhaps Lukaku if we are having trouble signing a new striker. Everyone else can go for the right price. I have long felt that Mikel and Lampard should not be starting anymore, and hopefully Jose will put them both in a bench role. Our only weaknesses were, in regards to the first team, the pivots and CF and in regards to the squad, Depth. Both those problems are already within reach of being solved. It's not just us. A lot of opposition fans recognise we'd probably be the favourites going in to this because they know what I know, that our team is a great manager (Achieved) and a couple of improvements (Soon) away from being an elite team again. Leif 6,006
I want to clarify - When I said I couldn't see him coming back here, I didn't mean I thought that this season when the rumours appeared. Once we lost Di Matteo and things were rocking the boat at Madrid I kinda leaned towards thinking he would come back. Anyway;I meant that when he left and he said things like "I will go back to Chelsea one day, for sure" it was just him flirting to keep us liking him etc. I thought this because he said almost everything he's said about us about Inter Milan too; only of course those quotes aren't really in English media for us to decrypt. Now something else - I don't think he'll last very long. That could just be my pessimism, but I somehow see him being gone within 2 seasons and us finding a new 'hero' - being whoever we may appoint after him. Hopefully everything is fine and dandy though. It's just a gut feeling, not logic or anything.

Leif 6,006
He certainly didn't manage at Madrid? Well so did Mourinho, so what's your point there? My point is you could see motivation and hunger in Madrid players under Mourinho even if the overall project was a failure. Mourinho tried managing parts of the club whereas with Pellegrini I just see someone who manages the squad on match day and in training. Basically I see Mourinho as a manager and Pellegrini as a top coach, with all respect to him. And as far as city doing nothing, I thought I cover that didn't I? That with mancini at the helm every one expected them to under perform. So no point in bringing that up again. As for that I didn't expect them to under-perform. Although Serie A wasn't at its strongest during his time there, Mancini won quite an incredible amount of trophies in a short time. He's really, really good. So good that AS Roma fans are considering his appointment despite him having Lazio roots and them being their biggest rivals. He's passionate, a good tactician etc. I think his problem at City was the players weren't as hungry or flexible as they could have been. They should have played more selflessly. Tevez disrupted the club, Toure is a cunt and it wouldn't surprise me if he causes problems behind the scenes and even players like Dzeko and Barry seem like moody people who bring the morale down. If he also got the players he wanted (apparently City refused certain transfers) I'm sure they'd have won the league this season and this discussion wouldn't exist. I doubt he wanted Rodwell and Sinclair ffs. He was more into the likes of Navas and Fernandinho, Witsel, so-on. The board fucked up, not Mancini.
