and if hughes cant do it...or deliver any trophy...

we will be the 2nd real madrid....

for years even with 3 world players in the squad madrid did not achieve anything because of mid table managers and former players!!!

and perhaps paper did not say anything about hughes is because he is not even in the list

besides when man you appointed fergie he is not required to win the premier league?champions league or bring attacking football

remember this is the hottest seat in europe...only the best can handle the pressure like Jose

Well i guess everyone who has ever managed their first "top team" was a nobody at managerial level when they first went there. I hardly even knew who Jose Mourinho was before he won the UCL final in 2004, he was just some portuguese coach with apparently a bit of attitude/charisma. Mark Hughes will manage a top team sooner or later, hes just gotta be given a chance. Who was Ferguson? who was Wenger? Even Ian Wright famously said "Who?!" Real Madrid got in Bernd Schuster, an ex player but he hadn't managed anyone good. got Getafe in the uefa Cup and bam he was a candidate for Real Madrid, very much like the Mark Hughes scenario. The new Barca boss..Josep Guardiola has NEVER managed before.

Sven? Are you joking?

No, I think Sven is a very good manager. He may not be the one I want to take the job (Rijkaard). But he did a goood job in the first half of the season for City. Again he isn't my first choice, but he is an option.

my top 3 are:

Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes and

Mark Hughes then..............

Ancelotti or

Klinsman

if we can't get any of them we're fucked, there's no one else of any standing, apart from the worlds best and he aint coming back.

when sven was in charge of england, england did not win anything

and after 6-0 thrashing by an off form Chelsea and 8-1 by boro

you guys should reconsider

I don't think Sven was ever a bad manager for England. We didn't do well in his last tournament because he'd already been told he was off, and because of what? An affair. The FA should have left it until after the World Cup before they decided on his future, and based it on his management.

Doesn't mean I want him here though, as you say, 6-0 and 8-1 are not good scorelines.

After Ten Cate leaving, I doubt that it will be Rijkaard. But right now I would like to either see Sven or Scolari take charge.

If i'm not mistaken, rijkaard had neeskens as his number two while with the dutch national team and also at barca when HTC left..

Chelsea need continuity of managership. If they get Scolari, Mancini, it'll last max 3 years, probably less, with Abramovichs quest for instant gratification.

I would like Hughes or a 'hungry to win' younger manager be given the long term option.

The first season may be silverware free, worse than Grants season where he just sat doing fuck all, if the manger has to introduce new players. But, I'd sacrifice a season to see long term growth and success. No one thought much of Ferguson or Wengers first season, but the respective boards had the foresight to spot long term potential and the rewards of continuity of permanent stewardship

I'd take that. Hughes has built something special at Blackburn over a period of time with very little funds - imagine what could be achieved with Abramovich's fortunes. It may take a while, but he is a motivated and inspirational person with strong ties to the club, he would be the ideal appointment in my view.

I don't think there will be a surprise really.

Roman wants a manager who will play fantasy football - Grant talked a lot about it but didn't have a clue and Jose never talked about it because he was too busy winning things and was confident enough not to give a toss.

We need a manager that we can announce within the next week, we cannot afford to wait until after the Euro Champs, a lack of a manager can be a very unsettling thing for players already possibly thinking about moving elsewhere - to clubs who actually have a manager.

We want to be "loved" according to Kenyon and co. No more rows and arguments showing Chelsea up.

We want a manager that fits the fashionable image of the club.

We want a manager with a good CV who has experience of handling a big club and all that this entails.

There is only one person that really fits that bill who seems to be a consistent front runner.

RYKAARD.

I'm not saying he is the one I want as manager.

I just think he is the guy we are going to get.
