Blue-in-me-Veins 4,067
I really don't wont to dwell on the possibilities of a Costa-less Chelsea, I really really don't. Especially not after what he's been doing to fire us to the title, converting literally every chance he receives.  I just hope the fans continue singing his name and all of this just blows over much like @DYC mentioned earlier. If Costa does in fact leave...I fear for us all. Because I got this gut feeling Emenalo will push for the repurchase of Lukaku. You already saw how close we were to signing him this summer, when it looked like Costa might have left for atletico madrid in the summer. Papers were linking us for weeks on end to Lukaku. Nahhhhhh man, I am not havin that.

Popular Post! Mário César 1,278 Posted January 17, 2017 Popular Post! Share Posted January 17, 2017 Surprise me how someone of you react so well to the fact that Costa can leave Chelsea. Maybe you haven't the idea that how difficult will be to replacement. If he leave the team, Chelsea will be in a very difficult situation. Since he cames to the club, we won one EPL and we are in a good position to won another. His influence is undeniable. Remember that Chelsea just only won the league five times. Don't forget that. BlueLyon 9,359
I think people here dont quite get it how important is Costa to our team and how good striker he is (and not just a good striker, but proven in PL for Chelsea and its working). You know what they say, you only appreciate it once you lose it. Barbara

Understand what you are saying and not discounting Costa's contribution or importance to the team However, we did get 6 goals from 2 games without him (Bournemouth and Leicester) without him. If we got 1 or 2 goals from those games, then yeah the worry understandable. We'll just need to spread the goals around

TBH I find those reports *Costa not needed for Chelsea, they replaced him already etc* cringy. Its ok as stop gap for few games, but if we play 5 games without Diego in row, problems will begin. Opponents will take advantage of that. And even if we replace Diego, I dont see anyone good enough that would be available to replace him properly. Its simple to throw 80m at Aubameyang or 50m at Lukaku or Lacazette. I dont find money that much of a problem if we actualy sell Diego and need to buy new top striker. But having prolific striker from bundesliga or from Everton doesnt warrant they will suddenly bang goals for Chelsea. Likely considering our striker problems, they will flop sooner than replace Diego properly. We only had Drogba and Costa as worthy strikers since Hasselbaink and that was 13 years ago. Anelka can be thrown there, but he wasnt realy main striker, since we had Drogba. Diego is clearly among top 5 players of this season so far and we should do everything to keep him or we will regress for sure. -Kaplan- 410
Everyone knows he's a huge reason as to why we're in first place. However, there is no point in keeping someone that doesn't want to be here. We stuck by him despite his bad attitude. We stuck by him despite making it clear he wanted to go back to Spain. If we're the massive club we think we are, we should cut our losses. Whether it's now or in the summer(hopefully), that's up to the club to decide. Replacing someone who doesn't want to be at the club with someone who does, is an upgrade regardless of skill. At this point he's trying to outdo Balotelli. Muzchap

I think losing Hazard would have more of an immediate impact

This is what I also thought, that some people on here are so spoiled. Even when the first bits and pieces of this story started coming out last week, some people were ALREADY demanding him to leave and casually throwing around the imaginary money earned from the sale of Costa for players who scored 40 goals on their FM saves. So cringeworthy and embarrassing. I for one don't want him to go for any sum, because he is a rare breed of striker who actually works for us, and the wounds of having Torres missing sitters every week are still too fresh. But some people are incapable of appreciating, truly appreciating what they have, so you get posts like "sell him to China for 120M and throw all the money at Griezmann!!!". coolhead23 1,147
It will be very difficult to replace someone like Costa and that too mid season ... As someone mentioned he is a rare breed of striker who has pretty much everything (how many strikers currently can hit the goal that Costa did against Stoke) in his bag and plus he is in form. But at the same time, manager should have the last say and no point taking shit from players if they want to act pricey. Costa and Chelsea want each other at this point of time. Costa can be on bench for the rest of the season while Chelsea misses out on an inform strikers. Best solution currently would be to talk things out between Costa and the manager ... If he continues with the same form and positive mindset till the end of the season, club should sell him off if he still wants to leave.

Tautvix 1,321
Good. Don't sell Costa till summer and then if the right offer comes and he wants to leave he can leave. So we can get a replacement. Muzchap

I gotta say that just because the English and other Western Europeans seem to think it's better to follow their traditional calendar and play through the northern hemisphere's winter does NOT mean it's the best timeframe for football's season. Fortunately in this case, it seems that different season schedules have worked to Chelsea's advantage. Still, I think it would be far better for most countries to just change to a late March to late November/December schedule.
