bababoom 4,478
What actually happened to Torres? i mean five years ago he was the best striker in the world. I know he had so many injuries and of course you would expect him to lose a bit of pace and explosiveness, but his whole game has deteriorated. He was known for his Acceleration, movement and finishing, very similar to Owen in that regard, but when Owen lost his pace through similar injuries, he still had great movement and finishing. I know, right?!I think the answer lays 100% in confidence. It's amazing how quickly it can go... but it is what it is... Scoring goals is off course an easy way to rate someone (no matter how good/bad he was in that game). Now that Torres completely stopped scoring (at the rate Suarez is doing at the moment) ... people lose there patience and confidence.Probably also the coach and his teammates. This must have gotten into his head... That's the only solution I can think off.I surely cannot blame his work ethic... he runs his butt off in every game. Also he still has it in him to pass by defenders with an amazing ease (Hazardesque), where I know a lot of strikers will be jealous about! He simply just stopped being productive! And if there is one thing you expect from a top striker at a top club... Blue Armour and bababoom
Special Juan 28,141
You can't compare Torres to Suarez because the difference in desire from one to the other is just quite unbelievable.

You can't possibly lose confidence and not even get it back especially after 4-5 years! It's just like he has gone completely 'dead' or AWOL on that mental strength and desire to succeed.I surely cannot blame his work ethic... he runs his butt off in every game. bababoom 4,478
To be fair earlier in the season he did work hard for the team, that was the only thing going for him.

He was never at any point in his career the best striker in the world, Drogba and Villa were both better when Torres was at his best.I think the main issues with Torres were partly physical (losing his explosiveness) and the fact Chelsea never built a team around him and played to his strengths from the start. Las7 951
This season in the League 4 out of 5 of our loses have coincided with him starting the match. Torres is Premiership poison - I'm sure Jose regrets having Torres in the pecking order ahead of Lukaku at the start of the season. At least Romelu has balls and that decision might cost us a title. 4 goals in the League in 1350 minutes; 338 minutes per goal - when we played and lost against Stoke; Newcastle; Villa and Palace his contribution was mainly to the opposition. Torres was overrated as fuck. One 30+ goal season in his career and he was heralded as the best. And if there is one thing you expect from a top striker at a top club... This is wrong. I wish it was all confidence but the facts are: he is actually really bad at football. His ball control, shooting technique, accuracy, dribbling and passes are just awful. He is just not good that's it.

Blue Armour 4,439
His lack of finishing ability is the most frustrating aspect...After seeing him curl in shots from just outside the box back in his prime, its incredible how a player that had a fine shooting technique, now struggles to put shots on target...like that shot he took against Palace with his left, or that lob towards the end of the game..really disappointing,

I've always thought his shooting technique was somewhat weird. You obviously don't notice it as much when he's banging them into the back of the net. But I must say, his technique is not very good. ANDRECHO 432
Fernando Torres didn’t manage a single shot on target in his last three games for Chelsea in the PL (inc. blocked - 13 attempts).
