Oscar

Shocking to see how Oscar still is in the Brazil squad and the likes of Coutinho are out of it. He was magnificent today and it is games like this where he shows some of his world class ability. I don't even see how I was debating with some members on here about who is better between Oscar or Coutinho. It is not even a debate. Coutinho has progressed while Oscar has regressed. Well I think it has been the case for a long while anyway what the Brazil squad is not based on meritocracy and it is more marketing and them factors which are based on players being picked. Allan has been excellent for Napoli this season and can't even get in the squad. I would love to see Oscar put in the type of performance Coutinho done today but I just don't think he has that type of ability. I can't see him getting a starting slot any time here soon either.

It's really not that shocking if you have ever actually watched countinho play for Brazil. He never had a good - said good not great - game for Brazil. Played the entire copa america and was shit, so it's really up to him to up his game at international level.

These comparisons here still make no sense to me... is Coutinho better than willian? Is Coutinho better than Hazard? latter at least makes some sense.

Coutinho is their Hazard - the entire team plays and runs for him as Shirley has already said we do for Hazard.

These comparison make no sense to me because you can't play with 3 coutinhos/hazards up front. Players like Oscar and Willian provide the balance especially when you play 4231 since otherwise your CMs would end up overwhelmed.

No I'm not saying Oscar is the best we can do in that position, just that he does NOT compete with Coutinho for a spot (for Brazil).

Oscar has not been that good for Brazil too. Coutinho has never been given much starts in a Brazil shirt anyway so it is difficult for him to prove what he can do. If he is given regular starts, however I think he can do good. And Coutinho is a no.10 and so is Oscar, which is why I am making the comparison. Yes, Coutinho is their Hazard but Willian for instance who provides this balance you mention does a lot more and actually contributes a lot more in the game. I am not just talking about this season. I am talking about last season. He always steps up and produces moments of quality throughout the game. Just because Oscar is not given the same responsibility as Hazard, the lack of offensive qualities he gives us is really concerning.

I really thought Oscar was going to step up this season but I cannot now. He has even lost his place in the Brazil team now and that says a lot.

See that's where we disagree: Oscar wears #8 and plays as a #8 to me.

I can certainly see both Coutinho and Oscar playing together without issues. Oscar form is a different discussion altogether and he does have to step up, but he's also been a bit unlucky with injuries.

I agree with most of it.

Coutinho has big consistency issues and he goes 10-15 matches without doing anything relevant. Which means he would need NTs to play as often as clubs for him to finally make an impact.

Oscar is a big letdown for me though. I stopped believing he will flourish someday. He won't overcome his 'inconsistency' because he seems to have accepted it as part of who he is. He has a lot of potential, but he won't ever fulfill it not because of inconsistency, but because he consistently settles for mediocrity.

Coutinho might though, especially working now under Klopp. Klopp does develop well attackers like him, but his inconsistency is bigger than Oscar's now. Although there also lies the difference. Coutinho is inconsistent, Oscar is consistent on fading away. There's a difference imo and for a long time I labeled Oscar inconsistent when I should haven't done it.

Sure I am also concerned about Oscar's development or complete lack thereof. However, I would not write him off based on what he has already produced for both Brazil and Chelsea in the past. Yes, it has been short lived, but quality is quality and he's still young.

Hey if Coutinho develops - that's great for Brazil! He's awful small though and that will always be a limiting factor for him.

I still think Coutinho and Oscar are completely different players. The position they play is less important than their characteristics and their role in the team. Oscar and Coutinho can play together and complement each other, the same way Hazard and Oscar once did/do.

Really surprised at Oscar's season thus far after getting an actual break before the season he's now been replaced by Hazard as the #10 that which Mata could've been playing. Big mistake on that transfer, but he's had no fitness issues and still struggling to make a mark. I think a change of scenery will do him good. Let Kenedy occupy the left wing. Sell Oscar and bring the Eiffel Tower
