Popular Post! MrExcalibur100 7,124 Posted September 27, 2014 Popular Post! Share Posted September 27, 2014 I don't understand why this is a "make or break season" for Oscar. How pathetically fickle. If it really is "make or break" for Oscar then it has to be the same for 5 or 6 other players at the club. He should be the least of our concerns now. Thank goodness some of you are just fans and hold no executive, decision making power within the club. And it's not as if he's been poor for the most part or anything. Apart from his poor second half to the season last season, he's been brilliant. But that blemish in his performance level is his one sin I guess. Most of our rivals will die to have such a player in their team. But, no let's "sell him to PSG" because he's not playing like Ronaldinho in his prime and living up to delusional expectations. The fact that Chelsea is building a team for the future of course is not important. The fact that Oscar is 22 and far from his peak is irrelevant. I'll like to see Oscar's critics produce a list of attacking midfielders, specifically central attacking midfielders under 23 in world football that are better than Oscar. You'll seriously struggle to do so. Remember the grass is not always greener (Mesut Ozil anyone?) on the other side before making ultimatum's for our players. Barbara 15,149
I take this being a break or make year for him in terms of his endurance in the winter. He's 23, there's no break or make at this age if people are reasonable which doesn't mean after 3 seasons here that fans, the board or himself can't conclude he can't cope with the winter days or the league's demands physically after a few months. Maybe he runs out of gas too soon. His technical struggles are understandable, and also frustrating, but they aren't what's going to make him break or make it here.At the same time one could expect him to be further in his development curve, he struggled to keep up with the league from winter on. Maybe he won't ever flourish here as he could for example in Spain or France. It affected his development and could jeopardize his career here, but then it's about the league, not his quality. It's similar to what I think about Mara although they struggle with different things in England.

Besides, the sample size is too small to draw such a conclusion. Two seasons ago under Benitez, he didn't seem to have many problems in the winter or 2nd half of the season or whatever. The point is the impatience some of our fans show to some of our better players is not good enough. It would make sense if Oscar was a rubbish player, but he's a fantastic player so what's the problem? ffs.
MrExcalibur100 7,124
Anyway, I'm still waiting for the list of CAM's in world football 23 and under that are better than Oscar or as complete as Oscar both on and off the ball. Maybe it is because he can't cope, maybe it's because he's been burned, or last season especially was thinking about something else. Some players just don't develop as well under some circumstances compared to others. I think we could observe and come to conclusions, after all, he's been here for three seasons now. It has nothing to do with how good he is, but how much he fits. José touched this subject about him last season... he talked about his struggles. Maybe it's only a question of getting used to it, like Ramires, who also took two seasons to completely adapt, or maybe it's a question of him not performing under such circumstances. It happens sometimes.

MrExcalibur100 7,124
Barkley and Isco are the only ones that come to mind. Can't believe people think Oscar is average. None of those players are better than him and I'm a huge fan of Isco ever since the U17 World Cup. I can't really make a case for Barkley because like many English players, he's built up a big reputation without achieving much. He's definitely not on the same level as Gotze, Oscar and Isco. An argument could be made for Isco, his ball skills are Iniesta-like, much better than Oscar's,and his shooting accuracy is very good but apart from that Oscar is much better without the ball, more verstatile (can play very well on the sides, Isco can't) and has a better range of passes. Vision is about the same, neither is great in that department. I'll still take Oscar over him. All in all, there are very few CAM's out there that fit Mourinho's system better than Oscar. He got rid of Mata specifically because of that. I'll rather see us get rid of average players like Willian and Ramires before even contemplating selling Oscar. Oscar right now needs to hit the gym and get physically stronger because it costs him in certain situations. He is tough and a competitor but his frame is very lightweight. Mourinho said so himself. Getting more muscle will accelerate his development. zolayes, Barbara, Cescy and 1 other
